The Emery High swim team hosted Richfield High and Juan Diego Catholic High in a tri-meet in preparation for hosting the region 12 meet on Jan. 22 at the Emery Aquatic Center in Castle Dale. Richfield is the favorite for winning the region title and Juan Diego is usually a top five program in the 3-A title chase.
Emery junior Eli Oliverson continues his improvement in the water as he won two races in this meet. Eli won event 12, the boy’s 100-yard freestyle, in 57.51 seconds. Eli also won event 20, the boy’s 100-yard breaststroke in 1:11.63 as he improved his best time of the season.
Eli also was a member of two relay teams that finished third. Tyler Rowley, Weston Allinson and Spencer Fauver also swam in the 200-yard medley relay and the 200-yard freestyle relay for Emery. The relay team of Michael Nelson, Bryson Hales, Colton Clement and Justan Potter finished fifth in the 200-yard medley while the team of Connor Benson, Taylor Hardman, McKade Hansen and Leedan Johnson finished sixth in the 200-yard freestyle.
Weston Allinson finished second in the 200-yard IM with a time of 2:34.82, his best time of the season. Allinson finished fourth in the 100-yard backstroke. Spencer Fauver finished fifth in the 50-yard freestyle in 27.43 seconds, his best time of the season. Fauver also finished fifth in the 100-yard freestyle in 1:03.64. Colton Clement finished third in the 100-yard butterfly in 1:18.18.
Tyler Rowley finished third in the 100-yard backstroke in 1:11.79. Taylor Hardman finished fourth and Bryson Hales finished fifth in the 100-yard breaststroke.
For the girls, Hailee Rogers finished fourth in the 200-yard IM with a time of 3:00.78. Rogers knocked over three seconds off her best time in this race. Brinne Dawes finished fifth in the 100-yard butterfly in 1:28.29. Jessica Guymon finished sixth in the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:25.96.
The relay team of Tanner Petersen, Tennyson Fauver, Brinne Dawes and Jessica Guymon finished sixth in the 200-yard medley. The team of Dawes, Fauver, Guymon and Morgan Curtis finished sixth in the 200-yard freestyle.
As this young Emery squad continues to improve, many other Spartan swimmers had their best times of the season as they finished out of placing. This Emery team only has one senior member that swam in the meet.
