Fair committee looking for grand marshals

By PATSY STODDARD Editor

The Emery County Fair 2011 is just around the corner and the fair committee is hard at work to bring you the best week of entertainment anywhere on Aug. 3-6. The fair committee is looking for the 2011 grand marshals for the event. These grand marshals will ride in the fair parade on Aug. 6. The fair committee is looking for the couple who has been married the longest in Emery County with both spouses still living. This couple must be in good enough health to ride in the fair parade on a float and participate in that capacity. So, start thinking and see how many years your parents and grandparents have been married, if you think they might qualify, then give Gaylee Jeffs a call at 381-2108 and sign them up. Jeffs said it will be interesting to honor our long time married couples because this is a great achievement in these times to stay married a good long time.
The fair organizers are excited about the activities they have booked to date. Fair activities and festivities will begin with early summer activities including the Little Miss Tea Party on June 4 at the Museum of the San Rafael and on July 16 with the Miss Emery Scholarship Pageant.
The Desertview Pro Rodeo will be the last weekend in July including July 28, 29 and 30. Fair activities begin on Aug. 3 with a pool party and free ice cream at the Emery County Aquatics Center. The fair will culminate on Saturday, Aug. 6 with the huge, free fair concert at the Aquatics Center Park. The concert will open with Miss Emery and the main event band will be announced soon.
The fair exhibits will be housed in the recreation building. Fair organizers encourage everyone to prepare now to enter something in the fair. Fair vendors will be in the park with food and wares for this popular event. Another event being added this year is the Miss Congeniality Pageant. The pageant committee is asking each county to send a contestant to participate in this pageant.
The pageant winner will advance to the Miss Utah 2012 pageant and will win a $1,500 scholarship. If you would like to be a host family for one of the Miss Congeniality contestants contact Laurie Pitchforth at 381-2110.
Thursday of the fair will be senior citizens day with a free lunch, bingo and entertainment. Kids Day at the fair will be on the Friday of the fair with the traditional pet show and baby Olympics.
The entertainment on Aug. 4, will be Vocalocity Entertainment. They are an accapella singing group.
The entertainment on Friday, Aug. 5 will be Scales and Tails. These people perform with snakes and reptiles. The Colgate Country Show Down will be held on Friday.
The entertainment for Aug. 6, is The Pink Stilettos. They are a singing group. And of course everyone’s favorite, the Hypno Hick. The fair parade is on Aug. 6 beginning at 10 a.m.
