San Rafael seventh grade CTE students participated in the National Job Shadow Day on Feb. 2. This is a day where the students are able to shadow a parent or other adult and find out a little bit about the world of work.
Courtney Lindsey shadowed her dad (highway patrolman) and said, “I think that this may be a job that I would want. I want to get a job where I can work on the computer, but where I can also get around and do stuff.”
Cayden Fox shadowed his dad (farrier) and said, “I might want to have this job when I’m older. It pays good and you can find people who need this done just about everywhere. I enjoyed my experience at this Job Shadow Day. It was fun and I learned a lot, and I got out of school.”
Mason Moss shadowed his dad (teacher) and had this to say, “After spending the day in the teaching profession, I am all the more convinced that I want to be a pilot. But the day spent at Emery High School with my dad was a good one and helped me appreciate what it takes to be a teacher.”
Ethan Winter shadowed his dad (gas field operator) and said, “My dad can’t call in sick or miss a day, but my dad’s job is the best job in the whole wide world. I loved going to work with my dad.”
Sierra Chamberlain worked with her mom at home making candy. “It was an enjoyable day making candy and I’d do it again just to taste and make sure it has the right flavor. It was a good day job shadowing my mom.” She also brought samples of the candy she made to school, and they were delicious.
Riley Rasmussen went to work with his stepdad (chief financial officer), he said, “With the 10 key calculator, he had to keep track of interest, and with Microsoft Excel he keeps track of all the money that comes in and goes out. One thing I learned is that even if you don’t like the job you are doing, you still can get paid money for working.”
