Huntington City celebrated the opening of their newly completed fire station on April 27. There was a ribbon cutting by the Emery County Business Chamber to officially open the facility. Members of the Huntington City Council were on hand to give tours and answer questions about the facility.
The new fire station includes five large bays and storage for all the firefighting gear. The facility also has a place for the ambulance. There is a training room and office space at the facility. There is a kitchen in the facility. Mayor Hilary Gordon said, “We are thrilled with the completion of our fire station. Valley Builders from Gunnison built the new facility. Travis Larsen was our councilman in charge of the project. He attended several meetings and put much dedication and work into the project. We are grateful too, for the input from the county ambulance director Jim Gordon. Both he and Travis gave fabulous input into the project. The building just came together, the colors are all perfect. We know it’s a very large project, but our vision was to build for the future. This new fire station will also be large enough to house the ladder truck for the county when that purchase is made. We wanted to plan ahead with this new facility to handle the needs of our community well into the future. The builders worked hard and they were very good to work with. It was a well coordinated effort. We have a large training room where EMT classes can be held and training for our fire fighters.”
There were refreshments served for the open house and each child that visited was presented with a gift bag containing a fireman’s hat and coloring book and other fun items.
Alyce Childs was the one assigned to cut the ribbon at the fire station. Long time fire chief Garth Childs passed away last May and the new fire station is dedicated to Garth’s memory and a new plaque is on the building at the front entrance dedicated to Garth Childs.
Huntington’s fire chief is Pete Alger. The Huntington fire department is an all volunteer service to the people of Huntington and surrounding communities. They are always there at fires and at accident scenes. They help with traffic control at accident scenes and are involved in rescue work when someone needs to be extricated from a vehicle. Other fire fighters include: Zeb Shannon, Thomas Jensen, David Bird, Nathan Brower, Teresa Halliday, Jason Jensen, Bernell Halliday, Warren Oviatt, Brent Pierce, Allen Jorgensen, Lon Arnold, Cole Sorenson, Ben Roundy, and Ryan Hotchkiss. worked hard and they were very good to work with.
