PRICE-Lamar H. Jones, age 89, passed away April 22, 2013 in Price. Lamar was born Nov. 9, 1923 in Kenilworth, Utah to Henry O. and Lillian Redford Jones, he was the eldest of six children. Graduated from Carbon High School in 1942 and entered the Navy in 1944 where he served in the South Pacific during WWII.
Lamar married Mabel M. Sealey March 29, 1945 at Fort Pierce, Fla. This union brought four children, Linda (Richard) Thayn, Kent (Dawn) Jones, Paula (Bill) Larsen and Terry (Kristine) Jones; and 10 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
After serving in the Navy, he returned to Price and became co-owner with his father-in-law, Paul Sealey in the Gambles/Western Auto Store and later with his brother-in-law, Marvin. Lamar retired in June of 1995.
Lamar was an active member of the Price United Methodist Church. He was an active member of the Masonic bodies having been past Worshipful Master of
Carbon Lodge 16 Price, Past Most Excellent Grand High Priest, Grand Chapter Royal Arch Masons, Past Most Illustrious Grand Master, Grand Council Cryptic Masons of Utah, Past Right Eminent Grand Commander, Grand Commander Knights Templar, member of El Kalah Shrine, 32nd Scottish Rite Mason and received the Hiram Award from the Most Worshipful Grand Lodge of Utah. Lamar was the Past Worthy Patron of Naomi Chapter #13 O.E.S. of Price and Past Grand Patron O.E.S. of Utah. He was also a life member of Price Elks Lodge #1550.
Lamar loved to travel and traveled many places in the world, spending many winters in Puerto Penasco, Mexico.
Survived by wife Mabel of 68 years, children, brother Frank of Idaho, brothers and sisters-in-law Marvin and Florence Sealey, Darlene and Gene Price of Albuquerque, NM, Tracy Jones of California; and many nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death by parents, father and mother in law, brothers, Alan, Julius, Bob and sister Dorothy.
Funeral service, Thursday, April 25, 2013, 11 a.m., Price United Methodist Church, (10 North 200 East-Price). Family will be at Mitchell Funeral Home Wednesday evening from 6-8 p.m. and at the church Thursday one hour prior to services. Interment, Price City Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the Price United Methodist Church or The Shriners Children’s Hospital, Fairfax Avenue and Virginia Street, Salt Lake City, Utah 84103. Arrangements entrusted to Mitchell Funeral Home of Price where friends are welcome daily and may share memories of Lamar online at www.mitchellfuneralhome.net.
