Green River girls basketball heads to state

The Lady Pirates of Green River High School will face off this Wednesday at the Sevier Valley Center in Richfield in the first round of the Utah State 1-A basketball play-offs at 4 pm. The Pirates finished third in region 19 with a 4-4 region record while Rich finished first in region 17 with a 7-1 region record. The two teams posted similar season records though as Green River finished the season at 8-12 and the Rebels at 9-10. Green River closed out their season with a pair of losses last week.
Green River first hosted Monticello and lost 64-53 and then the Pirates closed out the season with a 46-37 loss at Whitehorse. Kira Engleman led the team in scoring in both games as she scored 19 points against Monticello and 18 points against Whitehorse. She hit three three-pointers in the Monticello game.
Also scoring against Monticello was Savannah Williams with 12 points, Cassidee Moore with 11 points, Maribel Escalante with 8 points and Presley Lovato with 3 points. Also scoring against Whitehorse was Moore with 8 points, Williams with 6 points, Escalante with 4 points and Lovato with 1 point.
