WELLINGTON-Azell Jess Thayn, age 77, passed away March 17, 2015 at Pinnacle Care Center in Price.
He was one of 12 children of William Azell Thayn and Inez Rich. Jess was born April 20, 1937 in Wellington, Utah. On Feb. 18, 1956, Jess married Renee Tucker in Wellington.
Jess was a talented craftsman and mechanic who loved nothing more than working with his hands. At an early age he began working as a truck driver and mechanic. He worked for Fife Construction, Prichard Transfer and his later years were spent working for Des-Bee-Dove Mine hauling coal and working in maintenance. He retired in 1980, and was a proud member of the United Mine Workers of America Local # 2176.
Jess was a dedicated husband, father and grandfather who loved spending time with his family. His life revolved around his grandchildren and he was happiest while camping, fishing or enjoying the great-outdoors. He was a lifelong resident of Wellington who was blessed with a wonderful family and a community of friends.
Survived by his loving wife, Renee Thayn, Wellington, son, Griff (Mickey) Thayn, Wellington; two grandchildren, Griff L. (Kerstina) Thayn, Michelle (Chris) Magann, both of Price; sisters, Connie Erickson, Huntington, Eva (Max Lee) Tucker, Elmo, Ora Keele, Helper; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Tommy Tucker, Elmo, Darla and Garold Schade, Elmo, Gary Tucker, Price, Carma Tucker, Spring Glen, Monte (Pat) Tucker, Elmo, Margie Tucker, Price; great-grandchildren, Tiger and Derek Thayn, Cadance and Gauge Magann; many loving nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death by parents, brothers, Lynn (Ila), Dea (Colleen), Harold (Ethel); sisters, Ruth (Harold) Nelson, Donna (Clint) Oviatt, Azella (Archie) Bradley; infant brothers, Dell and George; and brother-in-law, Earnal Tucker.
Funeral service was held, Saturday, March 21, 2015, 11 a.m., Wellington Stake Center. Family received friends at Mitchell Funeral Home (233 East Main Street) in Price Friday evening from 6-8 p.m. and at the church Saturday one hour prior to services. Interment, Wellington City Cemetery. Arrangements entrusted to Mitchell Funeral Home of Price where friends are always welcome daily and may share memories of Jess at www.mitchellfuneralhome.net.
