Green River Pirate track finishes second in region

The region 19 track meet was held last week in Blanding at San Juan High School and Whitehorse High won both the boys and girls titles. The two Green River Pirate teams finished second. Monticello was third in both divisions and Pinnacle was fourth.
Joe Serafin had a great day for the Pirate boys’ team as he finished first in the 100 meters, the 200 meters and the long jump and was a member of the winning 4×100 relay team along with Wyatt Norman, Kyle Johnson and Tyrell Shumway.
Other first place finishers for the Green River boys were Kyle Johnson in the 800 meters, Jon Mendez in the high jump, Corbin Mecham in the shot put and Tyrell Shumway in the javelin.
Also placing for the boys team were Kyle Johnson and Shumway in the 100 meters with a second and a fourth place finish. Mecham was fifth and Owen Parlo was sixth in the high jump. Kyle was second and Mendez was third in the long jump. Mecham was third in the discus and Mendez was sixth in the javelin. The 4×400 relay team consisting of Shumway, Norman, Mendez and Parlo was second.
For the Lady Pirates, Savannah Williams was first in the 300 meter hurdles and in the high jump while Cassidee Moore was first in the 800 meters and in the javelin. Moore also was third in the 100 meters and second in the 1600 meters while Williams was second in the long jump and sixth in the 100 meters. Miranda Johnson was fifth in the long jump, third in the discus and third in the javelin.
The Pirates will move onto the state track meet this Friday and Satruday at Brigham Young University.
