After having defeated the Manti Templars in their first dual match of the season on the road and after having wrestled in a couple of tournaments, the Emery High wrestling team hosted the Carbon Dinos last week and the visiting Dinos returned home with a narrow 41-33 victory. Out of 14 potential matches, each team received a win because the other team forfeited the weight class. Of the remaining 12 matches, the Dinos won seven and the Spartans won five. Emery’s Newt Oveson won the 152 pound weight class by forfeit and Carbon’s AJ Adams won the 195 pound weight class the same way.
Winning for the Spartans were Chase Christiansen at 106 pounds with a first round pin over Bobby Blake, McKoy Christiansen at 126 pounds with a second round pin over Casey Shiner, Nathan Urie at 132 pounds with a 5-0 decision over Caleb Sanderson, Ashton Dieli at 160 pounds over Cody Lowe with a first round pin and Aaron Reeve at 285 pounds over Ryan Jannoud with a second round pin.
Carbon’s Kayden Gibson won the first match of the night at 120 pounds as he pinned Zac World. Bradlee Chatterton at 138 pounds defeated Justin Jennings by major decision, Jacky Byrge at 145 pounds pinned Tel Gardner, Taylon Abeyta defeated Delan Funk by technical fall, Kasey Hunt defeated Kacey Jones at 182 pounds by decision and Dallyn Mower decisioned Ty Mecham at 220 pounds. Kayden Lee at 113 pounds pinned Dax Hall in the final match of the night.
The Spartans are not home again until January 12.
