The Emery High Lady Spartans are still in the hunt for a play-off berth after splitting with the Lady Wolves from North Sevier High last week.
After defeating North Sevier on Tuesday by the score of 7-1, Emery traveled to Salina on Friday and lost the game 5-1. The same pitchers pitched both games for the two teams. Bailey Huggard pitched a four-hitter on Tuesday in picking up the win. Huggard struck out eight batters and walked just two North Sevier batters.
Kylee Keel allowed just a single run in picking up the North Sevier victory on Friday. Emery managed just a single run in the fourth inning of the second game while giving up two runs in the first inning and three more in the bottom of the fourth inning. In the first game Emery scored once in the second inning, once more in the third inning, twice in the fourth inning and three more times in the fifth inning.
At home Emery had 11 base hits with all of them being singles. Ambree Bennett led the way with three singles and Morgann Donaldson and Madisyn Alton each had a pair of singles. Addy Healy, Carlie Robinson, Jayla Weston and Adri Childs each had one single. Donaldson had three RBI’s and Bennett had two.
Emery will face region leader Gunnison Valley twice this week, on the road on Tuesday and at home on Friday. Gunnison Valley, on the other hand, has three other games besides the pair with the Spartans. They play a double-header on Wednesday against San Juan and are scheduled for a non-region game on Thursday against Millard.
