Spartan football loses game against Morgan

Last Friday night the Emery High football team continued their region season with a game against the Morgan Trojans on the Spartan field in Castle Dale, The Trojans won the game 47-27. In other region action Grantsville defeated Carbon 41-6 and Union defeated Judge Memorial 53-24. Emery will travel to Union this Friday night.
The Spartans had trouble throughout the game containing the speed advantage of the Morgan players. The Trojans put together many big runs including a kick-off return that led to touchdowns.
Emery scored four times on drives that started at the Emery 28-yard line, the 44-yard line, the 46-yard line and at the Morgan 49-yard line as they amassed close to 400 yards of offense in the game. The Emery ground game picked up 123 yards throughout the game with junior Rance Jensen accounting for most of those. Jensen ran the ball 24 times and gained 117 yards.
Junior quarterback Kyson Stilson had maybe his best night leading the team as he completed 25 passes in 33 attempts for 272 yards. Stilson completed passes to five different receivers on the night with senior Colton Willson leading the way with 11 receptions for 141 yards and a touchdown.
Willson scored the final touchdown of the game as the pass play covered 40 yards. Sophomore Jaymes Bowman caught 4 passes and those passes covered 46 yards and they resulted in two touchdowns. Senior Easton Gordon caught 6 passes for 44 yards, senior Jared Snow caught 3 passes for 29 yards including one for the first touchdown of the night and Jensen caught 1 pass for 12 yards.
Morgan had the ball 11 times in the game and converted seven of those possessions into touchdowns. Two possessions ended in interceptions by Emery with Gordon coming up with one and Stilson intercepting the other.
One possession ended when Morgan did not pick up a first down and one ended at the end of the game.
Junior Lon Huntsman and sophomore Braxton Young led the team in tackles with five apiece. Gordon, Willson, Landon Fairbanks, Jensen and Jesse Barnett each had three tackles.
Emery will now face the Union Cougars this Friday night in Roosevelt and will be looking to catch the Cougars in the region with a victory.
Emery closes out the regular season the following Friday with a game at Grantsville.
