Green River baseball gets win in first round

The Green River Pirates traveled to Spanish Fork to play a game at one of the pod sites in the first round of the state tournament for 1A baseball.
The team came away with a win against the Tintic Miners by a score of 8-5.
Green River Pirates will now travel to St. George for a quarter final game against Bryce Valley at 10 a.m. on Oct. 3.
If they are successful there they will travel on Friday to Brent Brown Field at Utah Valley University to continue the semi-finals.
The championship game will be played on Saturday at UVU at 11 a.m.
Green River baseball players include: Tyson Giles, Weston Hatfield-Knight, Sam Corrigan, Rad Hughes, Virgilio Mendoza, Preston Marshall, Manuel Rivera, Alondra Escalante, Axel Anguiano, Trey Vetere and Cord Pfander. Tom Hughes is the head coach with John Corrigan as the assistant coach.
Kayce Fluckey is the principal at Green River High and Sheri Vetere is the athletic director.
Green River has a lady pirate on their team this year, Alondra Escalante.
