Joe’s Valley Water Releases


Due to high anticipated runoff, the Emery Water Conservancy District will begin water releases from Joe’s Valley reservoir on April 11. Releases will be as much as 300 CFS. Be advised that river flows will be abnormally high and ice on the reservoir will be extremely unstable.

Huntington Easter Egg Hunt


The Huntington Easter egg hunt, sponsored by Huntington City Youth Council and the Downard Family, will be held April 12 at 1 p.m. at the ball complex. All children, ages 12 and under are welcome to attend.

Castle Dale Easter Egg Hunt


Castle Dale youth council will sponsor an egg hunt on April 12 at 5:30 p.m. at Cheddar Field for ages 12 and under.

Easter Sunrise Service


Easter sunrise worship service will be held at Desert Edge Christian Chapel, 500 South Main, Huntington at 7:00 a.m. on April 16. Everyone is welcome.

Green River Bridge Construction Delayed


The bridge reconstruction work that was slated to begin April 3 on US-6, north of Green River, has been delayed. Further notice will be posted before construction is to begin.

Millsite Ladies Golf


The Millsite ladies golf league will have its opening social on April 25 at 6:30 p.m. Get your teams together and come and sign up. Meet new friends and have lots of fun at the Ole’ Millsite Restaurant.

Food Handler’s Class

Archaeology of Range Creek


The Archaeology of Range Creek Canyon will be held on May 10 at 7 p.m. A presentation by Dr. Duncan Metcalfe of the Utah Museum of Natural History at the Rio Grande Depot, 300 S. Rio Grande Street, Salt Lake City. Free.

Gourd Art


It’s the month of the gourd at the Huntington Library. Two of our local artisans are Sharon Pollaehne and Shawnee Barnes. Their gourd art will be on display all the month of April. Drop by to see what can be done with such a simple product. The library has many good books on crafts and arts of all kinds. Come and browse today. Library hours are 9:30 a.m.-5:30 p.m. weekdays.

Special Needs Dance


Registration will be held April 13 from 2-5 p.m. at the Emery County Recreation office for children with special needs. The dance program will run April 18-20 from 4-5 p.m. each day. Your child must qualify to participate in this program. For more info call Emery County Recreation at 381-2108.

Fraud and Scam Seminar


A fraud and scam seminar will be held on April 21 at the Castle Dale Senior Center at 1 p.m. David Barker from the Utah State Department of Financial Institutions will be the speaker.

Cub Scout Roundtable


“Digging in the dirt.” All wolf, bear and Webelos den leaders, cubmasters, primary counselors, committee chairman, and committee members are welcome to attend on April 13 at 7:30 p.m. at the Castle Dale Stake Center. Enter through west door. Roundtable will provide at least an hour’s worth of help aimed for the den and pack programs for the following month featuring games, ceremonies, projects and other fun activities.

Democrat Convention


The Emery County Democrat Convention will be held April 28 at 6 p.m. at the Museum of the San Rafael, 96 North 100 East, Castle Dale.

Miss Castle Dale

Emery All-Star Cheerleading

Wrestling Sponsors

Veterans of Foreign Wars


A field service officer from the Veterans of Foreign Wars will be at the Price Workforce Service Center on April 20 from 8:30-10:30 a.m. This is a free service to assist veterans, widows and dependents in understanding and applying for rightful VA benefits.

Emery County Gun Club


The April schedule for the Emery County Gun Club is: April 14-buddy shoots at 7 p.m.; April 22-50 bird handicap at 1 p.m.; and April 28-buddy shoots at 7 p.m. Come out and shoot under the lights every other Friday night.

Emery County Spring Fling

Weather spotter training


On April 18 at 3 p.m. at the Emery County Sheriff’s Office the Local Emergency Planning Committee will hold Weather Spotter training for anyone interested in becoming a weather spotter. Addicts Anonymous Meetings

Archaeology Camp and Field School


A field school will be held in Range Creek on June 19-23 to 9-12 grade students. Scholarships will be available and the space is limited to six students. Cost is $150. For more information, contact Patsy Stoddard at 381-2431.

Dinosaur Paleontology Camp


A Dinosaur Paleontology Camp will be held on June 19-23 at the CEU Bone Preparation Lab and Price River Quarry Site. The workshop is designed for incoming 10-12 grade high school students. Students must have a 3.0 grade point average or a letter of recommendation from a science instructor. The cost is $200. Sign-up will be April 25 at town halls in Ferron, Orangeville, Castle Dale and Huntington.

Cooking Class


Emery County commodities cooking classes will be held on April 12, May 10 and June 14 at the Emery County Food Bank and Clothing Exchange (40 South Center, Castle Dale). They will be held from 10 a.m.- 12 noon.

Juanita Varela Childs Scholarship


A scholarship is being set up in the name of Juanita Varela Childs, who was killed in a tragic car accident. At the time of her death, she was a teacher at Carbon High School. Local Veterans Employment Representative


A local veterans employment representative visits the Castle Dale DWS Office the first Wednesday of each month. Appointments can also be arranged on other days by contacting Steve Wilkinson (LVER) at (435) 636-2343. The LVER is also available Monday through Friday at Department of Workforce Services, 475 West Price River Drive, for questions about VA benefits, assistance with VA applications, employment assistance and other veterans issues. Miss Emery Seeks Contestants


The Miss Emery Pageant will be held on July 15 at 7 p.m. The pageant committee is seeking those girls who would like to participate in the pageant.
You can be a junior in high school through 24 years of age. Contestants will participate in swimwear, talent, evening gown and on stage question. Vendors wanted for the Emery County Fair to be held Aug. 3-5. Large crowds expected, security will be provided 24 hours a day, so daily load out is not required. Ten Star All Star Basketball Camp

Castle Country King Crawlers


Castle Country King Crawlers (CCKC) is your local 4×4 club for Carbon and Emery counties. We hold competitions and monthly trail rides. Tip Line for Drug Violations


A tip line has been introduced in Emery County. The Emery County drug task force is requesting help from the residents to report any suspicious drug activity. The number is 381-2888, and all callers will remain anonymous. It is very important for citizens to be actively involved in helping remove drugs users and pushers from Emery County.

CASA Volunteers Needed


Each year hundreds of children in Emery and Carbon counties become wards of the juvenile court system due to child abuse, neglect or abandonment. The child welfare system can only devote so much time and attention to each individual case and, consequently, to each individual child. CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate) Volunteers are ordinary men and women who find it in their hearts and their schedules to help these abused and neglected children. Utah Valley Cancer Center, located at Utah Valley Regional Medical Center has a new toll-free phone number. Anyone can call 1-866-549-3800 to schedule an appointment, get information about local cancer support groups or to find out more about IHC cancer services and physicians. Hours are 8 a.m.-5 p.m.
