Camille Fehlberg puts up the jump shot against Juan Diego.

Two more region basketball wins for the Lady Spartans adds up to a very dominating season for the team from Emery County. Not wanting to use superlatives lightly, this had truly been one of the most fascinating seasons that I remember. After defeating North Sanpete 63-38 on the road, the Spartans came home and defeated Juan Diego again, this time by a score of 62-27.
In the Juan Diego game, something I had never seen before or had never even heard of, occurred. Juan Diego’s coach actually threw in the towel and probably not in jest. His team was whooped as bad as any whooping I have ever even heard of. It’s my story; I get to make up the words. After a fairly uneventful first quarter in which Emery led 10-6, the Spartans exploded both offensively and defensively to bring on the towel incident. Emery won the second quarter 17-5 and the third quarter 21-3 to lead 48-14, a whooping.
Through five region games, Emery averages 58.6 points of offense while only allowing their opponents to average 32.8 points. That is a 25.8 difference. That is a huge margin when you consider the quality of talent usually available in this region.
Camille Fehlberg led the team with 12 points but Rachel Rasmussen and Jodi Robertson also finished in double figures with 10 points each. This game, as most Emery games, featured a balanced scoring attack. Meagan Pearson scored 8 points, Jodie Lundell scored 7 points, Caitlin Hansen scored 6 points, Frankie Komar scored 5 points and Shalae Cox scored 2 points.
At North Sanpete on Tuesday night, Emery did not waste any time in putting the Hawks away. Right from the opening tip, Emery was in sync and played perhaps their best quarter ever. They led 28-9 at the end of that period. They then won the next two quarters to lead 54-23 after three periods.
Rasmussen and Lundell led Emery in this game with 14 and 13 points. Camille scored 8 points, Meagan 7 points, Shalae and ShiAnne Allred 6 points each, Frankie 4 points, Jodi 3 points and Caitlin 2 points.
Emery travels to Delta on Tuesday night and to Carbon on Thursday night. Both teams will be seeking revenge for the earlier defeats by this group of players from Emery High.
