Volunteers from Spanish Fork work to clean up the area surrounding the Green River Community Center/Boys and Girls Club in Green River. |
The Green River Boys and Girls Club sponsored a giant clean-up for the town in preparation for Melon Days. On Sept. 6 and Sept. 8, 190 volunteers from the New Haven Group Home in Spanish Fork visited the city and participated in a service project.
They cleaned and weeded along Broadway, along the parade route and around the affordable housing facilities. They cleaned around the old service station on the corner of Main Street and Solomon and moved the Thrift Store to that location. The entire project amounted to approximately 380 hours of work not including the volunteers in town who also helped.
It was a much needed service that helped improve the appearance of the town as several hundred visitors came to celebrate Melon Days.
The Thrift Store and More enjoyed a great day of business and all proceeds go to the Boys and Girls Club to fund various projects for the young people of the community. Their hours are Tuesday through Saturday from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. They are located at 210 East Main and JoAnn Williams is the manager. She says donations are always welcome.
Great things are happening at the Community Center facility as it expands its programs in partnership with the Boys and Girls Clubs of America. This organization reaches out to all young people and offers ways to help them succeed at school and prepare for the future. They welcome all to visit the Center and see first hand what is available to the children or ask any of the board members about the facility and its purpose.
