PRICE-Our dear husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend, Oscar Leland McKendrick, age 83, passed away peacefully Dec. 23, 2009 at his home.
He was born Nov. 12, 1926 in Spring Glen, Utah to John Thurman and Naomi Mollard McKendrick.
On April 17, 1948 he married Ella Mareice Gunderson in Price, Utah and together they’ve shared 61 wonderful years with family and friends.
Leland was a member of the Trinity Christian Center of Price and a very special part of his church fellowship was his jail ministry. His genuine concern and soft spoken ways were testimonies of how he lived his life and cared for those in need. He always greeted everyone with a warm embrace, big smile, and his expressions captured the true meaning of friendship.
Leland was a longtime resident of Carbon County and a dedicated employee of Utah Railway for more than 40 years. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and spending time with his family. Leland was blessed with a wonderful family and many dear friends who will greatly miss him.
He is survived by his loving wife Ella McKendrick, Price; son, John Frank (Helen) McKendrick, West Valley; daughter, Linda Lee (Jerry) Yeager, Orem; brother, Raymond (Rosella) McKendrick, Helper; sister, Jane (Jimmy) Wright, Price; four grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Leland was preceded in death by his parents, infant daughter, Sherry Ann; sister, Betty; and brother, Max Ray.
Funeral service, Tuesday, Dec. 29, 2009, 11 a.m., Mitchell Funeral Home. Family was at Mitchell’s Monday evening from 6-8 p.m. and Tuesday one hour prior to services. Interment, Mt. View Cemetery, Helper. Arrangements entrusted to Mitchell Funeral Home of Price.
