The Emery County Commissioners honored the senior citizens of Emery County by hosting an annual Christmas dinner.
Seniors came from all over the county to participate in this evening of good food and entertainment.
Commissioner Laurie Pitchforth opened the meeting by thanking everyone for coming and those that were dishing up the food and serving the meal. She then asked Commissioner Gary Kofford to offer a prayer and a blessing on the food. She thanked those that put together and numbered the presents.
The seniors were thanked for the contributions they had made over the years to make this one of the best counties to live in.
The excellent dinner, catered by Food Ranch, consisted of turkey, mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes, and rolls and was served to each table by elected officials and volunteers. Green River volunteers provided packages of cookies for each table. The splendid table decorations of a large clear glass vase filled with silver Christmas balls and silver necklace type chains added to the festivities.
The senior citizens were entertained by the Emery High School Chamber Choir singing “A Holly Jolly Christmas” and “Merry Christmas Jazz”. They were accompanied by Marilee Cox.
Following the Emery High School Choir, Commissioner Pitchforth presided over the drawing of names for gifts. Commissioner Pitchforth had two bags to draw from. The first bag held the names of those that signed in at the registration table. The second bag held gift bag numbers. First the name would be drawn and then the gift number was drawn and the gift was delivered to the winner. Some of those helping draw names were Elise Debry Miss Emery County and Tyrell Clement. This gift drawing was repeated after each group of singers.
Rachel Rogers accompanied by Brittany Fauver sang “The First Noel”. Clement sang “You’re a Mean One Mr. Grinch” accompanied by Cox.
More gifts were given out and then DeBry and Bryson Weaver accompanied by Cox sang “Were you there on that Christmas Night?” They also sang “Shine for Me Again Star of Bethlehem”. David Bird finished the entertainment by singing “The Forgotten Carol”. The entertainers received many rounds of applause.
Commissioner Pitchforth and Maughn Guymon thanked everyone for participating in this Christmas event. It was an outstanding evening and a good time was had by all.
