Knowing that Colorado Northwestern Community College may have one of their best teams in a long time, Eastern Utah wanted to come out of the first meeting with a win. Especially since it would be a road win. They did just that defeating the Spartans 69-46 to open Scenic West Athletic Conference play on Saturday afternoon.
Coach Paur credits his team with playing one of their best overall games so far this year and especially how well their defense put pressure on a pretty good Colorado team. The five starters score 62 of the 69 points on 22/49 shooting (44.9 percent). The Lady Eagles held Colorado Northwestern to just 46 points.
Priscila Santos makes the most of her thirty-three minutes in the game by scoring 27 points, hitting 10/20 from the field. She also made 7/10 free throws. Santos finished the game with 13 rebounds for a double/double. Last year’s all-conference player Bruna Deichmann put up 12 points. Point guard Christin Figgins added 10.
With very strong post play Eastern Utah out rebounded Colorado 48 to 25. Daiana Ferreria pulled in nine defensive boards and four offensive boards for 13.
The EU Women’s and Men will resume conference action On Jan. 7 and 8 with home conference games against Snow and Salt Lake Community College.
