LAS VEGAS-Dad went home to God who gave him life. He is reunited with his beloved sons Thomas Dell and Gregory Lee and precious grandsons James Dell Nielson and Tracy Allen Bunnell. Member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
The youngest child of Thomas Joel and Zelda Holdaway Bunnell, Dell was born in Vineyard (Orem) on a farm that is now Utah Valley University campus. He is survived by children Randy, Mesquite, Nev.; Betty (Doug); Becky Pigott (Willie), Las Vegas, Nev.; Teresa (Wayne Nielson), Huntington, Utah; siblings Eva, Marjorie, and Helen; 12 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by his parents; siblings Dean, Jesse, Neal, Grace; former wife of 59 years, LaVern Fullmer Bunnell; and the four mentioned above.
Career accomplishments of which he was most proud was being an instructor at the AFL-CIO Local 3 Operating Engineer Training center in Rancho Murrieta, Calif.; helping create the California Aqua duct system; construction of the Huntington, Castle Dale and Delta, Utah electricity-generating power plants, all as a crane operator; working on construction of U.S. freeway Interstate 80, near Auburn, Calif.; pouring cement for building both the Bullard’s Bar dam and the cement bridge abutments for the Auburn-Forest Hill road.
Dad worked hard and played well, teaching his six children his favorite hobbies: being a pilot, dancing, motorcycles, water skiing, fishing, among many others.
Dell died in Las Vegas. He wanted his body donated to science.
A celebration of his life will be held later this year. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that any donations be made in his name to educational scholarships at LDS Business College or to the LDS Perpetual Education Fund. Arrangements are in the care of Valley Funeral Home in Las Vegas.
