The Southeastern Utah Association of Local Governments is in the initial process of updating the Natural Hazard Pre-Disaster Mitigation Plan. This plan addresses natural hazards within the southeastern region to include Carbon, Emery, Grand, and San Juan Counties. The State Division of Emergency Services and Homeland Security and the Federal Emergency Management Agency, requires municipal governments to participate in the review and update of the current Regional Hazard Mitigation Plan in order to be eligible for FEMA assistance.
Amy Peters has recently met with Carbon County Emergency Services Director, Jason Llewelyn, and Emery County Sheriff’s office Capt. Kyle Ekker where they arranged the first working meetings. Each County lead requested Peters send invitations to several city officials and all Mayors in their respective counties.
SEUALG has been assigned the task of coordinating and updating the southeastern regional plan. For more information please contact SEUALG Coordinator and Planner, Amy Peters or Community Planner, Michael Bryant, at (435)-637-5444. The Pre-Disaster Mitigation Plan is non-binding. By this it is meant that jurisdictions are not obligated to perform the mitigation strategies identified by the plan.
