ORANGEVILLE-Carl Thomas Humphrey, age 84, passed away on Sept. 6, 2011 in Orangeville, Utah. He was born March 21, 1927 to Wilford Josiah and Lillie Sophia Christiansen Humphrey in Orangeville, Utah. He married Grace E. Heiniger on Sept. 30, 1955 in Orangeville, Utah.
Tom was the Mayor of Orangeville for 17 years and a council member for four years; totaling 21 years of service. He was elected four consecutive terms. He served as a board member of the Castle Valley Special Service District and on the board of Directors for Emery County Nursing Home. Tom was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where he served in various callings: Executive Secretary for the Stake President, High Priest Group Leader, Sunday School President, and Scout Leader for the Webelos. He also served in the U.S. Navy during WWII at the age of 17. Tom continued his service to our country as the commander of the American Legion Post 39 for more than 30 years.
He is survived by his wife Grace, and children: Lillie Marie (Lloyd) Smith of Bountiful, Utah; Micheal T. (Vicki) Humphrey of Ferron, Utah; Roger W. (Sandi) Humphrey of Crawford, Colo.; Wayne S. Humphrey of Santa Fe, N.M.; Carrie Lee (Kurt) Robertson of Orangeville, Utah; Chuck D. Humphrey of Orangeville, Utah; Kevin G Humphrey of Orem, Utah; Jason C. Humphrey of Price, Utah; Josh H. (Carmen) Humphrey of Orangeville, Utah; and Kelli J. (Dave) Seely of Orangeville, Utah; 30 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; several step-grandchildren; brother, Howard (Diane) Humphrey of Hurricane, Utah; and sister, Ruth (Kent) Stilson of Orangeville, Utah.
He is preceded in death by his parents, brothers: Mark (Merene) Humphrey, Dee (Zinnia) Humphrey, Lee (Phyllis) Humphrey, sisters: Laverne (Merrill) Day, Mary (Harry) Snow; granddaughter, Heather Smith; and great-granddaughter, Hannah Elise Smith.
Funeral services were held on Friday, Sept. 9, 2011 at 11 a.m. at the Orangeville LDS Church. A viewing was held Thursday, Sept. 8, 2011 from 6-8 p.m. at Fausett Mortuary (720 North Center – Castle Dale, Utah) and on Friday from 9:30-10:30 a.m. prior to the service at the church. Interment was in the Orangeville City Cemetery.
