Emery County is proving to be a scary place for the next week as Halloween activities abound in the county. The Field of Screams corn maze will continue this week on Center Street in Castle Dale just south of the high school parking lot. The corn maze begins each evening at 5 p.m. and will run through Halloween except Oct. 30. The Smoke Pit BBQ is on hand for the hungry goblins and concessions are available. The Charlie Brown cartoon the Great Pumpkin is being shown at the corn maze. Tyler Jeffs and family welcomes everyone to come check out the haunted corn maze after dark and the family friendly corn maze before dark.
Castle Dale Elementary will hold a costume walk on Oct. 31 at 12:45 p.m. They will also have a trunk or treat event at the swimming pool parking lot at 6 p.m. that evening.
Castle Dale City pumpkin party will be from 5-7 p.m. at the Emery County Recreation building on Oct. 27.
Cleveland Elementary students will participate in a costume walk at 9:45 a.m. on Oct. 31 there will be a carnival from 6-7:30 p.m. and a trunk or treat at 5:30 p.m.
Cottonwood Elementary in Orangeville will have a costume parade walk at 1:30 p.m. on Oct. 31. There will be a carnival from 5-7 p.m. on Oct. 31.
Ferron Elementary will celebrate on Oct. 28 at 9:30 a.m. with the monster mile walk. There will also be a carnival at the school from 4-7 p.m. on Oct. 28.
Huntington Elementary will host a costume parade on Oct. 31 at 1 p.m.
The Haunted Forest is in its fourth year and is 2.2 miles up Huntington Canyon on the south side of the road. Times are 8-11 p.m. on Oct. 28 and 29. Warm Drinks are available on site. There are a lot of spooks and the event is outside so dress warmly. This event is put on by the Collard family and they are warning everyone to be on the look out for a crazy guy with a chain saw.
On Oct. 29 at 9 a.m. at the Canyon View Junior High track a Halloween Fun Run and Walk will be held to benefit the Huntington Elementary PTA. There is a 400 m. run for kids and its free. The 5k and 10k run for everyone is $15 and includes a T-shirt. Costumes are encouraged. Call 435-687-2403 or 435-820-4187 for more information.
Be repared for The Haunting on 170 South State Street in Ferron. Oct. 26 and 27 from 7:30-9 p.m. and Oct. 28-29 from 7:30 -Midnight. Admission is $4 or $5 depending on the night. Hot Chocolate, Wassail and other treats will be sold to keep you warm while you wait in line.
Stewart’s Annual Halloween Carnival will host a book signing for local Authors Sherri Mills (I Almost Divorced My Husband, but I Went On Strike Instead) and Mandi Tucker Slack (The Alias). Sherri and Mandi will have copies of their books for sale as well as free book marks, free giveaways, and candy.
When: Oct. 29; time: 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Where: Stewart’s Market in Castle Dale. There will be fun and games for the Stewarts Carnival with plenty of candy.
Explore the haunted town of Hiawatha. Many locals and past residents of Hiawatha have come forward, reliving their spooky encounters they had with the ghosts who linger. Their tales will be told at the campfire by a self-proclaimed expert on ghosts and Hiawatha. Each building in the ghost town has its own spooky story. One building in particular has been given a new ‘face’ (a clown face, in fact) and added to the spook alley to make it almost twice as long. Patrons may even find it twice as scary. To go along with the new carnival-like attraction, popcorn, candy apples and hot chocolate will be sold to ticket holders waiting to go in. However, once you find yourself inside, it will be no carnival. The Haunting will be open on Oct. 28-29, from 7:30 p.m.-midnight. The Haunted House is at the old mining town of Hiawatha.
