The Utah Cattleman’s Association honored Tate Jensen posthumously on Dec. 1 by presenting his family with the Distinguished Cattleman’s Award on Tate’s behalf. The award, which is the highest honor which a member of the association can receive, was given in memory of Jensen’s achievements via a unanimous vote by the association’s board of directors.
According to a post on the Utah Department of Agriculture’s website, Jensen began riding horses and working cows with his father and grandparents at an early age. “He developed a keen eye for managing cattle, an unmatched work ethic and gentle hand for raising horses.”
Jensen not only worked the land but sought an educational background which would ensure he was a proper steward of his family’s property on the Tavaputs Plateau. Tate attended the College of Eastern Utah and Utah State University obtaining a bachelor’s degree in range management with the goal of enhancing his family’s operation.
Jensen’s family hopes to unite the local community through a scholarship which would provide education for another seeking to run their own ranch.
