New Miss Emery 2012 is MarKette Tanner

A new Miss Emery 2012 was crowned on July 7. MarKette Tanner is the Miss Emery 2012 with Marissa Urie as second attendant and Miss Congeniality and Kelcy Faimalo as first attendant.
The program opened with a welcome by Commissioner Laurie Pitchforth. The National Anthem was sung by Corben Bloomer and Aspen Bloomer. The opening number included all the contestants and McCall Spears Miss Emery 2011 dancing to “Set the night on fire.” This year’s contestants were: Kelsey Gordon, Rachel Rogers, Kelcy Faimalo, Hailee Rogers, MariLyn Malan, Marissa Urie and MarKette Tanner.
Mike Mower was the emcee for the event. He is a former Ferron resident and an assistant to Gov. Gary Herbert and former assistant to Gov. Jon Huntsman Jr.
Private interviews were held in the afternoon followed by a luncheon for all contestants and parents. The talent competition included: Kelsey Gordon with a dance, Rachel Rogers singing the Girl in 14G; Kelcy Faimalo with a piano solo, Hailee Rogers with a song, “Popular, MariLyn Malan with an impromptu piano piece, Marissa Urie with a song “Defying Gravity” and MarKette Tanner with a piano solo.
There was a special number by the newly crowned Little Miss Emery 2012, Gracie Huntington.
McCall Spears performed her platform dance to alert people against the dangers of texting and driving.
The contestants answered the on-stage questions asked by Mike Mower with the help of Little Miss Emery 2011 BrinLee Hurdsman
Newly crowned Junior Miss Emery 2012, Sophie Huntington presented a vocal solo, “It’s the Climb.”
Little Miss Emery 2011 BrinLee Hurdsman presented a dance number.
The 2012 contestants participated in the evening wear competition. The theme for the Miss Emery 2012 pageant was Making a Difference. The spotlight this year was on former Miss Emery Christi Ann Nelson Green: Making a Difference. She along with her husband have adopted several children from China with plans for two more to come into their family at Christmas time. The children are special needs adoptions and Christi Ann sent a slide show to be presented of the music video their family recorded which is on YouTube. It highlights their family and adoptions.
Miss Teen Emery Kayla Pratt played a piano solo.
Miss Emery 2011 McCall Spears and 2011 Little Miss BrinLee Hurdsman presented a farewell dance number. A slide show highlighting McCall and Brinlee’s year of service was shown.
MarKette Tanner was the ticket sales winner.
