Three straight losses dropped the Emery baseball team from second place in region to fourth. The Spartans traveled to Price to play the region leaders. Carbon won the ball game 11-0. Emery traveled to Delta and lost 6-5.
Against the Dinos, the Spartans went down in five innings as they had trouble hitting the Dino pitcher and they had trouble in the field with errors.
Only Chandler Pearson was able to hit Martinez for the Spartans. Pearson had the only two hits of the game. Martinez struck out eight batters, gave up teo hits and a single walk.
Against the Rabbits, the Spartans scored one in the first, one in the third and one in the fourth inning for a 3-0 lead. The Rabbits came back with five in the fifth and one in the sixth for a 6-3 lead. Emery added to in the top of the seventh to finish one run down.
In the first inning, Wes Baletka walked and singles by Bowie Jeffs and Brady Larsen scored Baletka. In the third inning, singles by Pearson and Jeffs, a stolen base and a pickoff play allowed Pearson to score. In the fourth inning, Trevor Thompson got on base and scored on a Josh Eden single. Emery’s last two runs came in the seventh as Baletka and Pearson both walked and advanced around the bases by steals, errors and a wild pitch to both score.
Delta scored five in the fifth inning on three singles, a double and a homerun as they only had two other hits in the game.
The Spartans then righted their ship with a 12-0 victory over the North Sanpete Hawks last Thursday. Chandler Pearson pitched a 2-hitter and the complete game to nail the victory. Pearson also tripled and homered to assist the Emery cause. Chandler Tanner and Trevor Thompson doubled in the game, Jeffs also had a triple and Baletka also homered for the Spartans.
Emery finished third in the region and will travel to Cedar City High School this Saturday to play Grantsville, a second place region finisher. Cedar City and Park City are also at this site.
