Emery High Senior Allison Wells has been named the 12th Grade State Winner for the Martin Luther King Jr. Essay Contest.
Allison competed against hundreds of other seniors from across the state in this contest which requires an original essay on the theme “Welcome Means All of Us.” Students were to use examples from the life and speeches of Dr. King in their essays.
Allison was first selected by her teachers at Emery High School to represent her school and then a committee on the state level reviewed each essay from the schools and named her essay as the winner. She will be honored at a banquet to be held in Salt Lake City on Jan. 17, where she will receive a plaque and $50 and then she will be honored at a ceremony at Hill Air Force Base where she will receive another $150.
Allison is involved at Emery High in basketball, volleyball, track, speech, choir, National Honor Society, and is currently taking three advanced placement classes. Allison will graduate with honors in May and will attend the College of Eastern Utah where she has already completed one year. She plans to major in photojournalism. She is the daughter of Dan and Annette Wells of Cleveland.
