O. Varen Willson
ELMO – 0. Varden Willson, age 69, passed away Feb. 15, 2002.
He was born April 2,1932 to Oran E. And Jane Willson. He married Lucille Piccolo on Feb. 16,1951 in Huntington. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Manti LDS Temple on July 22,1978.
Varden never had an idle day in his life. He worked for Sears for 33 years, then at the Huntington Cleveland Irrigation Co., as their secretary for the past 14 years. He also was the Utah State River Commissioner for the past 14 years. Throughout his life he served on the Emery Telephone Board, the Emery County School Board, Desertview Federal Credit Union- He was politically active as well. He served as the mayor of Elmo and also on the town council. He was a delegate to the State Democratic Convention several times. Varden’s love of the outdoors and animals started at an early age. He was active in the 4-H organization from the time he was 8 years old. He worked actively in the South Eastern Junior Livestock Show for 20 years. He was happiest when he was working with the land or the animal with his kids. He stood as a beacon of integrity to his family and all that knew him. He will be greatly missed, but forever revered.
Survivors include wife, Lucille Willson, Elmo; two sons and one daughter, Boyd and Koree Willson, Shelley, Ida.; Calvin and Loretta Willson, Logan; and Emily and David Tanner, Ogden. Also survived by loving grandchildren; and sister, Vonda and Joe Hadfield, Tooele. He was preceded in death by parents; five brothers; one sister; and son, Robert Navon Willson.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, Feb. 20, 1 p.m., at the Elmo LDS Ward Chapel. Family will be at the church from 11 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. for visiting. A viewing will be held Tuesday, Feb. 19, from 7 to 9 p.m. at Fausett Mortuary in Price. Committal service, Elmo Cemetery.
Lucy Richeda
HELPER – Lucy Margaret Richeda, age 72, passed away February 13, 2002 in Price.
She was born April 16, 1929 in Helper, to Edward and Minnie Bruno Richeda.
Member of the Catholic Church. Lifelong resident of Helper. Member Stella D’America Lodge 77, where she was the financial secretary for the ladies lodge for many years. Lucy worked as the secretary for Helper Junior High for 10 years, 19 years for Sears & Roebuck as audit manager and later retired from Helper City as city recorder with 15 years of dedicated service. She enjoyed her Wendover trips and will be dearly missed by all.
Survived by sister, Olive M. Richeda, Helper; numerous cousins; and a community of lifelong friends. Preceded in death by parents, infant sister and infant brother. Funeral Mass, Tuesday, February 19, 10 a.m., St. Anthony Catholic Church. Vigil service, Monday evening, 7 to 9 p.m., at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Helper. Family will be at the church Monday and Tuesday one hour prior to services. Committal service, Mountain View Cemetery, Helper, under the direction of Mitchell Funeral Home.
Minnie Clark
EAST CARBON/PRICE-Minnie Gladys O’Leary Clark passed away peacefully on Feb. 13, 2002 at the age of 95 in Price.
She was born Feb. 10, 1907 in Moroni, the sixth child of eight born to Eugene and Josephine Marie Daniels O’Leary. Married Leo Clark June 24, 1925 in the Manti LDS Temple. Leo preceded her in death on March 19, 1954.
Minnie was an active member of the LDS Church. She worked many years for the LDS Church, retiring as a Membership Records Clerk at the LDS Church Office in Salt Lake City.
Survived by son, L. Paul (Mary) Clark, East Carbon; daughter, Jeannine (Calvin C.) Campbell, Price; sister, Lois Duffy, Salt Lake City; 13 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren, eight great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by parents; husband; daughter, Oma P. Strong; granddaughter, Denise Campbell; three brothers, and three sisters.
Funeral service were Monday, Feb. 18, 2002 11 a.m., Mitchell Funeral Home, 233 East Main Street, Price. Interment, Larkin Sunset Gardens, 10600 South 1700 East, Sandy.
Dee Bruce Staker
WOODLAND HILLS – Dee Bruce Staker, age 75, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 12, 2002 at his home in Woodland Hills. He was born Sept. 5, 1926 in Huntington to Lawrence Raymond and Eliza Amy Howard Staker. He married LaVon Peterson on Jan. 6, 1944 in Huntington. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Idaho Falls Temple in June 1950.
Bruce served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was employed by the U.S. Government as a Civil Service Agent for over 35 years. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where he served as High Priest, Sunday School President, teacher, and Name Extraction Worker. He enjoyed doing genealogy in his spare time.
He is survived by his wife, LaVon: his children: Bonnie Lavonne Ellefsen of Mt. Pleasant, Gayle Renee Hanks of Findley, Ariz., Kathleen Lynn Staker of Woodland Hills, Kimberly Ann Deardeuff of Woodland Hills, Kevin Bruce Stake of Fredricksburg, Va.; 21 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by a brother, Howard Staker, and sisters: Virginia Ellerd, Lucille Jensen, and Beth Swedberg. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, and five sisters.
Funeral services under the direction of Walker Mortuary of Spanish Fork were Saturday, Feb. 16, at 11 a.m. in the Mt. Loafer Chapel, 1100 South 250 West, Salem. Friends called at the church from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. prior to the services. Interment in the Castle Dale Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the L.D.S. Missionary Fund.
Joy Lott
ELMO – Joy Irene Cameron Lott found her final peace after struggling with illness on Feb. 18, 2002.
She was born March 14, 1926 in Vernonia, Ore., to Alan and Margaret Roepke Cameron. Married Levi Berry Lott in Clearfield on May 28, 1965. Later sealed in the Logan LDS Temple.
Active member of the LDS church where Joy and her husband served a mission together in St. George. She was interested in many things, quilting, crafts, pets, fishing, and most of all her family. Joy loved life and all that life could offer. She is fondly remembered by husband, Levi; sister, Phyllis Linn, Minnesota; brothers, “Butch” Cameron, Minnesota; Dean Cameron, Wisconsin; children, Doug (Lorna) St. Julien, Deborah (Michael) Knott, Kathy (Dale) Shupe, Janice (Mic) D’Ambrosio, Tom (Robin) Lott, Rodney (Audra) Lott, Berry (Donnie) Lott and Meg (Glen) Lott. She is also survived by 41 grandchildren, 50 great-grandchildren with more on the way; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by parents; brothers, Edwin Cameron; son, Sidney Lott and grandson, Hunter Davis.
Funeral service Saturday, Feb. 23, 11 a.m., Elmo LDS Ward. Family will be at the church one hour prior to services. Friends are welcome at Mitchell Funeral Home daily, 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Interment, Huntington City Cemetery.
