Helen Young
PRICE – Our beloved Helen Melva Young, 82, returned to her heavenly home Jan. 14, 2003 in Price.
She was born March 2, 1920 in Antelope, to James R. and Mima Peacock Keele. She was married to Thomas B. Carroll May 6, 1941 and later they were sealed together in the Manti LDS Temple. He passed away and she later married Grant L. Smith.
She loved to travel and visit with family and friends and enjoyed reading.
She was a department manager with Price Trading Company and then loved working for many years as a teacher in the Head Start program, and retired as an assistant manager with Yellow Front Stores.
She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many callings including relief society, primary, a mission to the Little Rock, Ark., Mission and served as a temple worker in the Manti LDS Temple.
She will be deeply missed by children, James T. (Sharon) Car-roll, DeVere K. (Susan R. ) Smith, both of Price; and sister, Ruby Burrola of Price.
Also five grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews and special friends.
She was preceded in death by parents; husband, Thomas; four brothers and three sisters.
Funeral services were Saturday, Jan. 18, in the Price LDS Stake Center. Interment, Price City Cemetery under the direction of Fausett Mortuary.
Earlene Jensen
CASTLE DALE – Our most precious and loved mom, grand-ma, great-grandma, sister, aunt and friend, Earlene Leturgez Jensen, age 65, died suddenly Jan. 13, 2003 in a tragic car accident.
She was born Dec. 21, 1937 in Canon City, Colo., to Paul and Mildred Smith Leturgez. Married Stanley Jensen Sept. 14, 1956 and, together they had four children, Stanley Paul, Charlene, Gary and Lori.
Earlene worked at the Museum of the San Rafael as a hostess.
She loved to read, sew, crochet, embroidery and make quilts for all of her children and grandchildren. But most of all, she loved to spend time with her grandchildren, they were the apple of her eye. She was looking forward to her two new great-grandbabies.
Survived by children, Charlene (Dennis) Olsen, Weston, Idaho; Gary (Anita) Jensen, Huntington; Lori (Sheldon) Jensen, Price; grandchildren, Shawn Olsen, Hillsboro, Ore.; Kimberly (Justin) Anderson, Midvale; David (Erin) Olsen, Hillsboro, Ore.; Sheyanne and Sierra Jensen, Price; great-granddaughter, Amber Anderson and two new great-grandbabies on the way; sister, Sharon Griffin, Hutchinson, Kan.; brothers, Les (Carol) Leturgez, Price; and Paul (Ruth Ann) Leturgez, Price. Preceded in death by parents; son, Stanley Paul, who died Oct. 4, 1985; and brother-in-law, Maurice Griffin.
She will be greated missed by her family and we will love you forever. Now you get to go and be our special guardian angel.
Funeral services were held Saturday, Jan. 18, Castle Dale LDS Stake Center. Interment, Castle Dale Cemetery under the direction of Mitchell Funeral Home.
Irene ‘Trini’ Ivie
PRICE – Irene ‘Trini’ Wilson Ivie, age 84, passed away Jan. 13, 2003 at Turnquist Retreat.
She was born July 30, 1918 in Sunnyside, the 8th of 15 children to James and Kate Hatter Wilson. Married Louie F. Ivie Sept. 4, 1935 in Price. He died June 19, 1989.
Member of the LDS Church and the Pythian Sisters. Lifelong resident of Carbon County. She loved being around her family and friends and enjoyed volunteering at the senior citizen center addressing the monthly newsletters.
Grandma Ivie took great pride in her sewing, embroidery and she loved to make aprons and dish towels for everyone in the family, as well as donating them to the senior center for the annual bizarre. She loved to sit out on the front porch and talk to the neighbors as they walked by. She saw many changes throughout here life and took the transition well.
Grandma Ivie had a great sense of humor and she kept us all laughing and on our toes to the end.
Survived by three children, La Ree (Neldon) Noyes, Price; William S. “Bill” (LaRene) Ivie, Huntington; Patsy I. (Gene) Brown, Elmo; three sisters and two brothers, Dora Hendrickson, Scipio; Bernice Henrie, Wellington; Juanita (Willis) Merrick, Ogden; Stirling (Annie) Wilson, Price; Edwin V. (Virginia) Wilson, Helper; 14 grandchildren, 37 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by parents; four sisters, Alice, Kate, Iva Mae, and Thelma; five brothers, James, Clarence, Charlie, Johnny and Woodrow; and great-great-grandson, Jadon Noyes.
Funeral services were held Thursday, Jan. 16, Mitchell Funeral Home. Interment, Price City Cemetery.
Mary Zakrysek
“Together Again”
SUNNYSIDE – Mary Lipersick Zakrysek, age 93, died Jan. 17, 2003 at the Care Source Medical Hospital in Salt Lake City while surrounded by daughter, Rose Marie and husband, Doral; and great-grandson, “Little Bobby Goodsell.”
Born Nov. 8, 1909 in Rockvale, Colo., to Joe and Jennie Blatnik Lipersick. Married Matt Zakrysek April 14, 1945 in Canon City, Colo.
Mary attended public schools in Rockvale, graduated from Florence High School in 1928 and later attended college at Greeley, Colo. Matt worked in the coal mining industry in Canon City area until 1950. At that time he moved his family to Sunnyside, where he went to work for Kaiser Steel Corp. until his retirement in 1976.
Matt and Mary traveled extensively after his retirement, including trips to Europe and Canada. Mary was a member of the Good Shepherd Catholic Church in East Carbon. She was also a life member of the Western Slavonic Lodge of Denver, Colo.
Survived by daughter, Rose Marie (Doral) Goodsell, Sandy; four granddaughters, six grandsons, 18 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by husband, Matt; parents; five brothers and two sisters; son, Rudolph; daughter, Diana; and grandsons, Shawn M. Damron and Jerry Goodsell.
Funeral Mass Friday, Jan. 24, 10 a.m., Good Shepherd Catholic Church. Vigil service Thursday evening, 7 p.m. at the church in East Carbon with Rev. Joseph W. Morris, S.J. as Celebrant. Committal service, Cliffview Cemetery, Price, under the direction of Mitchell Funeral Home.
