Community Theater


The Emery County Community Theater presents the musical melodrama “Rogue of the Railway, or….Should He Free Her or Knot?” It can be seen at the Museum of the San Rafael Aug. 7 at 5:30 p.m., Aug. 8 at 6 p.m. in the Desertview Credit Union Tent and Aug. 9 at 6 p.m. in the PacifiCorp Pavilion.

Girls High School Tennis


Emery High girls tennis will start Aug. 13 at 8 a.m. Girls 9th through 12th grades are eligible. Bring your racket to this first meeting.

Concert in the Park Series


The Utah Arts Council’s Folk Arts Program’s annual Mondays in the Park Concert Series continues Aug. 11 with Lanfrique, a family ensemble the performs the music and dance of their native African nation of Equatorial Guinea; Aug. 18 with Michael Robinson, Cowboy Poetry and song; and Aug. 25 with Ballet Folklorico Citlali, known for spectacular dance choreographies of Mexico’s Native American heritage. Utah Rural Summit

Early Notice for Republicans


This is an early notice that the Emery County Republicans will be having their Fall dinner Sept. 26, so it can be put on personal calendars. The dinners will be held at the Emery County Recreation Building in Castle Dale at 6 p.m.

Canyon View Football


Canyon View Junior High football will start on Aug. 20, the first day of school. Players will need a physical if they did not get one last school year. Bring the fees, which include the fee and spirit pack.

San Rafael Football

Old Mill DUP Camp


Old Mill Camp DUP, Ferron, is in the final stages of publishing the “History of Ferron” book. If you have not submitted your history, it is not too late. Contact Evelyn Huntsman or Irene Williams. This would make a perfect gift for someone who lived in the Ferron area or for any history buff’s collection. Pre-publishing orders are being taken. Also, Old Mill still has Ferron Afghans and Ferron History picture CDs for sale. These are available at the Ferron City Hall, from any Old Mill Camp DUP member, or check out the Old Mill Camp DUP booth at the Emery County Fair.

San Rafael Junior High Registration


San Rafael Junior High School will hold registration on Aug. 11. Students will receive and information packet by mail.

Folk Art Festival


Museum of the San Rafael will hold it’s annual Folk Art Festival beginning July 29. Exhibits will be in the museum from July 29-Aug. 9. Folk Art demonstrations and entertainment on the gree will run from Aug. 7-9 from 2-5 p.m. Aug. 7, music, line dancing, melodrama and Tracy Robertson, singer will perform at 6 p.m. Aug. 8, line dancing, music, cowboy poetry and singer, Joel Reese will perform. Aug. 9 Atlatl throwing contest for everyone to compete in the spear throwing. Jay Frandsen Band will perform after the parade.

Families Connected


This group connects families of children with mental or emotional challenges to each other, community resources and “piece” of mind. They meet on the second and fourth Thursdays of each month at 6:30 p.m. at Castle Dale Elementary. Free childcare and refreshments.

American Legion Field Officer


A field service officer from the American Legion Department Service Office in Salt Lake City will be at the Price Workforce Service Center from 8:30-10:30 a.m. on Aug. 7. This is a free service and veterans need not be members of the American Legion to qualify for assistance.

BAD 2 Association Reunion

Tour de Emery


Emery County Bike Ride against cancer sponsored by the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life, promoted by MECCA will be held Aug. 22. Rides will begin in Emery and end at Cleveland. Get a donor form and information sheet at any county library.

Veteran, Widows and Dependents


A field service officer from the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Department Service Office in Salt Lake City, will be in your area to assist you in understanding and applying for rightful VA benefits, preparing and documenting application for compensation, pension, hospitalization and other benefits. This is a free service to veterans. The VFW service officer will be working out of the Price Workforce Service Center from 8:30-10:30 a.m. on July 30.

Labor Day Telethon Auditions


Auditions are being held for the 2003 Jerry Lewis MDA Telethon. Candidates must be at least 18 years old and must provide their own music. Gallery needs Stories


The gallery in the Joseph F. Smith building, now under construction, needs stories about the educational heritage of members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Some ideas for stories include, but are not limited to the following: traditions of faith and learning, foundations of education in the restored gospel, early schools in Zion, education in the family and extending learning to all the world. Educational Opportunities


The College of Eastern Utah has a new Educational Opportunity Center serving Carbon and Emery Counties. The program is designed to assist adults who would like to start into a college of their choice. The Educational Opportunity Center can assist students with a variety of services including financial aid application, college course selection and completing their GED if needed. It is a free service and targets low income and first generation students. If you would like to start college in the fall, now is the time to get started. Grants for Families of Utah’s Guard and Reserves


A collaboration of Utah United Ways launched the Homefront Response last month to help Utah’s military families cope with the personal and financial burdens of U.S. war efforts. Support Group


Bringing hope to single moms support group and self-reliance class now being offered in Castle Dale. Open to the public free of charge.
