The Emery County 4-H Horsemanship competitions have come to a sliding stop for the year. There were 68 enrollees in the program in 2003, this being the largest number of members in recent history. The state individual competition was held in September and Emery County shined throughout the two day event.
Representing Emery County in the senior division were Bailey Bohn, Jade Jensen, Jesse Jensen, Amy Langston and Laura Wright. The intermediate division was made up of AnnDee Adams, Tawny Conder, Jacie Fasselin, Tawn Jewkes and Cade Whittle. Turning heads in the junior division were Dakin Allred, Meran Allred, Mandy Langston, Ben Toomer and Camie Whittle.
Out of 108 junior division competitors, the placings were as follows, in the Judged Events: Test; Dakin Allred took first place, Ben Toomer placed fourth and Camie Whittle placed seventh; Fitting and Showmanship; Ben Toomer took first place, Dakin Allred came in seventh and Mandy Langston placed eighth; Trail; Dakin Allred placed fifth, Camie Whittle took seventh and Ben Toomer placed 10th. In the All-Around Judged Events, Ben Toomer took second place, Dakin Allred took fifth and Meran Allred placed 18th.
In the Speed Events: Quadrangle; Ben Toomer finished in fifth place. In All-Around Speed, Ben Toomer placed eighth. The junior All-Around winners (including, test, judged and speed events): Ben Toomer won the first place All-Around winner at State; Dakin Allred took fifth and Meran Allred placed 16th.
With close to a 100 competitors in the intermediate division, Cade Whittle took first place in Trail, eighth place in the All-Around Judged events and ended up with a respectable 17th place for the All-Around (test, judged and speed events).
With close to 100 competitors in the senior division: Judged Events; Amy Langston came in at ninth place for the Test, eighth place in the Western Horsemanship, fifth place in Trail and ended up in seventh place for the All-Around Judged events.
Speed Events: Barrels, Jesse Jensen place seventh; Poles, Jesse Jensen finished in fifth place; Quadrangle, Amy Langston placed fifth; All-Around Speed, Amy Langston finished in seventh place, Jesse Jensen came in at ninth place and Jade Jensen finished 17th.
For the senior All-Around (test, judged and speed events), Amy Langston repeated her placing from last year, taking the fourth place all around spot. She also repeated last year’s performance by receiving the blue ribbons in every event.
Other 4-H Horsemanship senior division members competed at the Utah State Fair in the Team Competition.
Emery County made up more than half of the region team and finished in second place.
Those members were Bailey Bohn, Jade Jensen, Amy Langston and Laura Wright.
