McKenzie Lyn Ward won the Utah Division of Water Resources 2004 Young Artists Water Education Poster Contest. McKenzie was the winner for Book Cliff Elementary in Green River. She then competed against other fourth graders in the West Colorado River Basin Region where her poster won the first prize. As the region winner she was honored at the awards banquet held on Saturday, March 27 in Salt Lake City. The banquet honors the nine regional winners and is where the grand prize winner is announced. Every regional winner received a trophy and a $200 savings bond. In addition, each school represented received a $125 check to be used for water education. At the end of the evening it was announced that McKenzie had won the grand prize which includes a week stay on a houseboat at Lake Powell. McKenzie’s poster and the posters of the other regional winners will be placed in the water education calendar. Each school in the state receives copies of the calendar. The winners’ posters will also be placed on the State Division of Natural Resources web page.
