Stan Truman
FERRON-Stanley William Truman, age 64, returned home to his Heavenly Father June 7, 2004 in Provo with his family by his side. He was born April 23, 1940 in Huntington to Arthur Leslie and Olive Staker Truman. He married Karen Leah Huff Oct. 2, 1959 in the Manti LDS Temple.
He served for 17 years in law enforcement in Salt Lake City, serving as Chief of Police for South Salt Lake and as a detective for the Salt Lake County Police Department. He returned to Emery County and has served as Justice Court Judge since 1975.
Stan felt a strong love for the outdoors, camping, fishing, horseback riding always with his family, whom he loved to tease. His quick wit and humor will be dearly missed by his family and many friends.
He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Karen, of Ferron and three children and their spouses, Loretta and Ralph Nielson of Huntington, Rick and Julie Truman of Cleveland, Kaylene and Mike Behling of Ferron, 12 grandchildren and three great-grandsons. Also survived by brother Kay and his wife Julie Truman of Huntington and Ronald Robertson of Magna and many nieces and nephews, all who dearly loved him and by whom he will be deeply missed.
Funeral services were held Fri. June 11 at 11 a.m. in the Huntington Stake Center. A public viewing was held Thursday evening at Fausett Mortuary in Castle Dale. Burial was in the Huntington Cemetery.
Carrie Ruzanski
HELPER-Carrie Ruzanski, age 93, passed away on June 14, 2004 at the Harmony House in Helper. Born Dec. 12, 1910 in Dover, Kan. to Lloyd and Marry A. Whitecotton. Moved to Deer Fork, Colo. and homesteaded a ranch. Married Charles Hanson March 9, 1930 and had one daughter. Divorced in 1942 and married Rudolph Ruzanski June 25, 1949 in Rock Springs, Wyo.
She worked for F.W. Woolworth’s and attended night school to become a bookkeeper. She later went to work as office manager for Pacific Fruit Producers Co. She moved to Glenwood Springs, Colo. in 1957 where she worked for the Daily Reminder paper and later worked for the law offices of Peatry and Zimmer as bookkeeper and tax consultant until her retirement. She was a long standing member of the BPW Club until her health restricted her of most activities. She was extremely happy when she received the Woman of the Year Award in June 1993.
Survived by her daughter, Pat (Tony) Gabassi; three grandchildren, Kim Gabassi, Price; Tony M. (Cami) Gabassi, Vernal; John Gabassi, Canton, Mich.; four great-granddaughters, Kari, Kelli, Whitney, Cenzlie; two great grandsons, Trevor and Joshua; sister, Beth Fossett, Dublin, Calif.
Preceded in death by her husband, father, mother, eight brothers and two sisters.
Family graveside service will be held Fri. June 18, 2004 at 1 p.m. at the Rosebud Cemetery in Glenwood Springs, Colo. No flowers please.
The family would like to express sincere thanks and appreciation for all the love and wonderful care she received by the staff at Harmony House, Helper, for the past two and one half years. A special thanks to Maryln Hadden, she is an angel. Also thanks to Rocky Mountain Hospice for their dedicated service.
We love you dearly mom and surely will miss you. Who will bake our pies and cakes on the holidays?
William Buddy Tatum
CLEVELAND-William Buddy Tatum, 79, of Cleveland, passed away June 10, 2004. He was born April 14, 1925 in Glenwood Springs, Colo., to James Harvey and Hattie Dorthy Kulhaman Tatum.
He is survived by his brother and sisters, George W. Tatum, Grand Junction, Colo., Elsie Gurr, Cleveland, and Ivera Cobb, California. Preceded in death by his parents and four sisters, Jessie, Geneva, Velma and Ester.
Graveside services were held Mon. June 14, 2004 at 11 a.m. at the Cleveland Cemetery under the direction of Fausett Mortuary.
John B. OBerto
“Teast”
HELPER-John Baptiste OBerto, age 89, died peacefully Fri. June 11, 2004, in Price. He was born Jan. 10, 1915 in Helper to Joe and Bertha Vignetto OBerto. Married Mary Peretti, May 31, 1947, in Reno, Nev.; she passed away Aug. 8, 1991.
Teast served in the U.S. Navy for eight years during World War II. Retired from Rio Grande Railroad as an engineer after 35 years of service.
He enjoyed spending time with his grandson Steven, and the companionship of his dog and cat. Teast loved gardening and working in his yard. He will be missed by his family and many longtime friends.
Survived by his son, Steve (Diane) OBerto, grandson, Steven T. OBerto, all of Helper; daughter Michele Stuart, Salt Lake City; sister Lillyan Loomis, Salt Lake City; sister-in-law, Perena Schiro, Price.
Funeral service, Tues. June 15, 2004, 11 a.m. Mitchell Funeral Home. Family will be at Mitchell’s one hour prior to service. Interment, Mt. View Cemetery.
June Oliveto
PRICE – June Alene Oliveto, age 83, passed away of natural causes on June 7, 2004.
She was born in Helper on Nov. 24, 1920 to George and Bertha Eckstein Spratling. Married Dr. Sam Louis Oliveto June 11, 1943 who preceded her in death on Dec. 17, 1987.
June was a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and true friend. We will forever love and miss her.
Survived by oldest daughter, Judith Kelly, Los Angeles, Calif.; two grandchildren, Jessica Loebbecke, Long Beach, Calif.; Samuel Hobi, Stanford, Conn.; and two great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by youngest daughter, Marilyn Robertson on Aug. 17, 2003.

Ralph Coates
PRICE/SALT LAKE CITY – Ralph T. Coates, age 77, died June 13, 2004 from a stroke in Price.
Ralph was born Sept. 22, 1926 in Mt. Pleasant, to John William and Annie Ovina Whalin Coates and was the youngest son, having four brothers and three sisters.
Upon graduation from high school, Ralph decided to move to the big city of Salt Lake City. He had several jobs; being a cook, cab driver and laborer working at Kennecott Corp. He started working at Mountain Fuel in 1951 and continued working when the company became Questar Corp. Ralph moved to Price when Mountain Fuel brought gas into the Carbon County area. He retired from Questar Corp in 1988. Ralph also loved to do carpentry work and built four houses in his lifetime.
Ralph was a past master of Joppa Lodge 26 F&AM. He was a KCCH of the Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite Valley of Salt Lake City. Member of Price York Rite Bodies, where he served as past commandery of the Charles Fred Jennings Commander 6 of Price. Member of the El Kalah Shrine of Salt Lake City.
He will be dearly missed by daughter, Marjann (Allen) Guptill; grandson, Archie (Erni Jo) Guptill; granddaughters, Lisa (Vernon) Keele, Kristen (Jared) Ballard; great-grandchildren, Cecelia Guptill, Kathryn Guptill, Allen Joseph Guptill, James Ballard; stepdaughter, Janet (Jack) Forrester; step-grandson, JC Forrester; sisters, Reba Angert, Venice Canaday; and many loving nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by parents; brothers, Bill, Ray, Sterling, Dee; and sister, Goldie.

Doris Jean Nelson
FERRON-Doris Jean Nelson, 79, dearly loved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend to many, passed away peacefully at home on June 10, 2004, in Ferron, after enduring with dignity several years of multiple illnesses.
Doris was born March 29, 1925, in Ferron, to Joseph Herbert and Bernice Petty Nelson. She married Philip Clair Nelson on June 16, 1944, in Ferron, later solemnized in the Manti LDS Temple in 1950. She graduated from South Emery High School. She was recognized as an outstanding employee, working in many important positions of responsibility including billing clerk at the Ironton Steel Plant, payroll clerk at Geneva Steel, secretary at South Emery High School, secretary at the USU Extension Office in Castle Dale and clerk at the Ferron District Forest Service Office.
As an active member of the LDS Church, she served faithfully in a variety of callings, including Relief Society President and Ordinance Worker for five and one-half years with her husband at the Manti LDS Temple. Doris faithfully supported her husband while he served as bishop. She was known for her compassionate, kind and caring service to others.
Her most cherished moments especially centered on her love of family. Her numerous kind deeds, acts of service and words of encouragement brought countless blessings to those whom she loved so dearly. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the light of her life.
She is survived by her loving husband, Philip, sons Philip Dean (LaRita) of Ferron; Scott Herbert of Hesperia, Calif.; Ted Barry (Debbi) of Rancho Palos Verdes, Calif.; sister Florene (Max) Peacock of Murray; 14 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by parents and brother Cloyd.
The funeral will be held June 16, (their 58th wedding anniversary) at noon in the Millsite Ward Chapel, 35 West 200 North, Ferron. The viewing will be held Tues., June 15 from 6-8 p.m. at Fausett Mortuary in Castle Dale, and from 10:30-11:30 a.m. at the church prior to services. Interment will be in the Ferron City Cemetery.
Tony Migliaccio
HELPER – Tony Migliaccio, age 78, passed away June 8, 2004 in Price.
Born Aug. 20, 1925 in Grand Junction, Colo., to Thomas and Rosa Guerrie Migliaccio. Married Barbara Jean Steele Aug. 16, 1952 in East Carbon.
Tony was a member of Carbon Lodge 16 F&AM and an honorary life member of Price Elks Lodge 1550. Served in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II. Longtime employee of Utah Power & Light, where he retired from the Carbon Plant. Tony had a deep love for railroading and he enjoyed working for the Denver and RioGrande Railroad as an engineer. His greatest love was for his family and he will be dearly missed by all.
Survived by loving wife, Barbara Migliaccio, Helper; daughter, Debra (Danny) Howa, Carbonville; sons, Tony Brent Migliaccio, Rangley, Colo.; Mark David (Annette) Migliaccio, South Jordan; brother, Tom (Donna) Migliaccio, Salt Lake; nine grandchildren, Danielle, Deann, Dallas, Derek, Mandy, Amy, Megan, Brittany and Scott; three great-grandchildren, Jessica, Maddix, Corbin; and many loving nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by parents.
