The Lady Pirates were simply too much for East Carbon as Green River outscored their opponent 16-4 in the first quarter then continued the onslaught as they won easily 56-29. Green River then defeated a team from Grand High School 45-40 to see their record go to 4-1 as the young Pirates see good things happening in their future.
Against the Vikings, Green river outscored their opponent 21-9 in the second quarter and 13-2 in the third quarter before everyone got to play and score and East Carbon rallied for a 14-6 advantage in the last quarter.
Leading the scoring for the Pirates were CiGi Vetere with 18 points and Heidi Vetere with 10 points. Charlene Vetere and Adriana Cordova added 8 points each and Whitney Bigelow added 6 points. Savannah Bayles, McKenzie Spadafora and Andrea Thornton-Silliman added 2 point each in the win.
Against Grand, Green River took a 13-6 first quarter lead and then hung on in a dogfight to win by 5. It was 23-19 at the half and 34-24 at the end of the third quarter. Grand outscored the Pirates 16-13 in the final period but it was not enough as Green river hung on to win by 5.
Leading scorer in this game was Adriana Vetere who had 23 points and Heidi Vetere assisted her with 14 points. Whitney Bigelow and Charlene Vetere each had 4 points.
The Pirates kept on winning last week with another victory, this time over Meridian High 56-26 as they never let their opponent into the game and controlled the tempo to their advantage all night long. The Green River defense was so good that only three players were able to score against them.
Green River led after the first quarter 12-6 and at halftime 27-12. The defense of Green River was good but not overaggressive, as Meridian shot no free throws in the game.
