Manuel Manzanares “Spooks”


EAST CARBON-Manuel O. Manzanares, age 89, passed away March 7, 2006 in Elko, Nev. He was born Dec. 30, 1916 in Ignacio, Colo. to E.T. and Lucy Duran Manzanares. He married Geneva Dora Gallegos. She passed away on July 30, 1982 after 45 years of marriage.
He was a member of the Catholic Church and a longtime resident of East Carbon, where he was a retired member of the United Mine Workers of America, Horse Canyon Local #9958. “Spooks” enjoyed fishing, hunting and his “Wendover Trips.” He will be dearly missed by his family and community of friends.
Survived by six sons, four daughters and their spouses: Ben (Jan), Price; Ray (Diane) Seattle, Wash.; Ron (Cheryl), Ferron; Ken (Sissy), East Carbon; Joe (Teresa), Ferron; Stephen (Terri), Price; Elaine (Tom) Gravlee, Elko, Nev.; Sadie Manzanares, Price; Virginia “Goldie” (Bob) Sanchez, Price; Dolores (John) Jones, Meeker, Colo.; special companion, Liz Manzanares, East Carbon; sister, Emma Pinkert, Ignacio, Colo.; brothers, Joe (Lucy) Manzanares, Grand Junction, Colo.; John Manzanares, Seattle, Wash.; and many loving grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by parents, wife, beautiful daughter, Betty Jean “Jeannie” Maestas, sister, Lola, and brother, Victor.
Funeral mass was held Sat. March 11, 2006 at 10 a.m. in the Good Shepherd Catholic Church. Vigil service was Friday evening at 6 p.m. at Mitchell Funeral Home in Price. Family was at Mitchell’s one hour prior to Vigil and at the church in East Carbon Saturday morning at 9 a.m. Committal service, Price City Cemetery.
Our Dad. Let your memories be your eulogy to a very great man. Our Dad. I could go on and on about his great attributes, about how honest he was, and how perfect-but in reality, only he and God know. All I know is that he was very perfect to us. May God open the gates of heaven to you “Pops.” We love you very much, Dad. Love, your Children.

Norma Ward


HUNTINGTON- Our loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend, Norma Marie Ward, age 56, passed away March 8, 2006 at Castleview Hospital.
She was born Aug. 7, 1949 in Price to Joseph and Glenna Hunt Jensen.
Married Jerry Ward, Sept. 13, 1991 in Huntington.
Norma lived for her family and she made sure that she spoiled her grandchildren every chance she had. She loved crocheting, gardening, canning and fishing with Jerry and her dog “Toby”.
Survived by her husband, Jerry Ward, three daughters, Peggy Lupo Whitten, Delorus (Charles) Whitten, all of Huntington; Sylvia (Robert) Slama, Price; step-children, Jeri Faye (Guillermo) Meza, Harold Ward, both of Huntington; Mike Ward, Colorado Springs, Colo.; Jimmy Ward, Tallahassee, Fla.; John (Jen) Ward, Waterloo Ontario, Canada; 16 grandchildren and many other loving relatives.
She was preceded in death by her parents, brother, George Chubbuck III; sister, Ethel Chubbuck; and step-daughter, LeAnn Ward.
Graveside service, Wed. March 15, 2 p.m., Lawrence Cemetery. Family will be at Mitchell Funeral Home in Price, Wednesday from 12 noon-1 p.m. and Tuesday evening from 4-7 p.m.
