Una Jensen
FERRON-Una Barton Jensen, age 90 of Castle Dale, passed away March 16 in Bountiful. She was born May 21, 1915 in Ferron, the first of six children to Owen Henry and Emma Zwahlen Barton.
Una was raised in Ferron where she graduated from Emery High School and later, from Brigham Young University. As a long time educator, she taught school in Elmo, Emery, Orangeville and Ferron. Una was also the county librarian for 15 years.
Una married Francis Ward Jensen on June 20, 1941 in the Salt Lake Temple. She was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where she served in many different callings.
Una was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She has a life-long love of reading and enjoyed fishing with Francis.
Una is survived by her daughters, Velma Jensen Oldfield of Centerville and Kathleen (James) Lemon of Roosevelt; brothers Dean of Draper and Kent of Visalia, Calif.; eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren and one more on the way., Preceded in death by her husband, Francis; brothers John and Gerald, and parents.
Funeral services will be held Tues. March 21 at noon at the Castle Dale LDS Stake Center. The family will receive friends one hour prior to services. Interment in the Castle Dale Cemetery. Services under the direction of Fausett Mortuary.
Joe Marretta
PRICE- Joseph Marretta, age 94, passed away March 14, 2006 in Price.
He was born Feb. 18, 1912 in Alton, Ill. to Augustino and Maria Sinatra Marretta.
Joe enlisted in the Army Air Corps on Dec. 28, 1941, soon after the bombing of Pearl Harbor. He served overseas 26 months in the American Theatre of Operation.
He worked as a controls checkout mechanic for Lockheed Aircraft Corp. in California for many years before returning to Price.
Joe was a member of Notre Dame Catholic Church and loyal member of the Price American Legion Post #3. He enjoyed photography and rock collecting. Uncle Joe will be dearly missed by his loving family and all his many friends and coffee buddies.
Survived by two sisters, Mary C. Falsone, Price; Frances Hurskainen, Salt Lake City; brother, Phillip Blanda, Peoria, Ariz.; special nieces, Theresa F. Allred, Charlene Lewis and nephew, Tony Falsone; as well as many other loving nieces, nephews and longtime friends.
Preceded in death by his parents.
Memorial service, Thurs., March 23, 10:30 a.m., Mitchell Funeral Home. Family will be at Mitchell’s Thursday one hour prior to service. Committal service, Price City Cemetery.
Jessie Shiew
CLAWSON-Jessie Louise Mortensen Shiew, age 49, passes away unexpectedly March 15, 2006 in Price. She was born June 11, 1956 in Price to Andrew and Charlene White Mortensen. She married Doug Shiew in 1976 and spent their whole married life in Clawson.
Jessie’s great love in life was her family, especially her little granddaughter Jacey. She felt very much at home in the outdoors, camping, four-wheeling, or just spending time with her family and friends. She also loved reading and working in her flower garden.
Jessie is survived by her husband Doug of Clawson, and daughter Kristi and her husband Josh Perez of Clawson, granddaughter Jacey Shiew, her parents Andy and Shaw Mortensen of Cleveland, brother Les and his wife Suzy of Ferron, sister Cindy and her husband Troy of Rowlett, Texas. Preceded in death by son Jason Shiew and father and mother-in-law Cecil and Letha Shiew.
Funeral services were held Sat. March 18, 2006 at noon at Fausett Mortuary in Castle Dale (710 North Center Street). Friends called Friday evening from 6-8 p.m. and one hour prior to services at the mortuary. Interment was in the Cleveland Cemetery.
Ramon Cisneros
PRICE- Ramon B. Cisneros, age 89, passed away March 13, 2006 at his home.
He was born June 14, 1916 in Questa, N.M. to Nicanor and Juliana Quintana Cisneros. Ramon honorably served his country in the U.S. Army during WWII. He was a P.O.W. from April 8, 1942- Sept. 17, 1945 in the Philippines and Japan and was a survivor of the Bataan Death March. Retired member of the U.M.W.A. Horse Canyon Local #9958. Ramon loved fishing, gardening, baseball, dancing and the outdoors.
He is survived by his loving wife, Lola Aguilar, Price; five daughters, Mida (Marshall) LaCome, Midvale; Marcella (Brad Bourland) Cisneros, Saudi Arabia; Teresa Cisneros, Jonesboro, Ariz.; Patricia Cisneros, Tucson, Ariz.; Roxanne (Norman) Behunin, Vernal; and their mother, Elsie Sanchez; brother, Bences (Julia) Cisneros, East Carbon; and Lola’s children, Juve (Bolena) Aguilar, Vernal; Anna (Dave) Wiberg, Jensen; Maria (Ricky) Comacho, Battle Mountain Nev.; and many loving grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Preceded in death by his parents and four sisters.
Funeral Mass, Sat., March 18, 10 a.m., Notre Dame De Lourdes Catholic Church. Vigil service, Friday, 8 p.m., Mitchell Funeral Home. Family will be at Mitchell’s Friday and Saturday one hour prior to services. Committal service, Price City Cemetery.
Nola Jean Hanson Larsen
ST. GEORGE – Nola Jean Hanson Larsen, 91, died Sat., March 18, 2006 in St. George. She was born Jan. 21, 1915 in Price, to Joseph Michael and Caroline Louisa Hanson. She married Alma Verdell Larsen Aug. 15, 1933 in Cleveland. Their marriage was later solemnized in the St. George Temple. They are the parents of four children: Caroleen Marshall, Huntington, Colleen (Marvin) Jensen, Cleveland, Joseph Verdell Larsen, deceased, and J Glenn (Laura) Larsen, Washington.
Nola spent her early years in Spring Canyon. When she was 15, they moved to Cleveland. She was so upset about moving to a place that didn’t have indoor plumbing that her brother “Buddy” bought her a car to cheer her up. She played the piano for the town dances and even helped her constable father tame some of the rowdy young men at times.
Nola and Verdell started their married life together in Cleveland keeping bees. They also owned an Arctic Circle in Boulder City and managed a motel in Moab among their many moves and careers. After retiring in 1975, they moved to St. George.
In retirement Nola crocheted dozens of beautiful afghans, learned to play the organ, had many good friends, enjoyed doing temple work and read the Book of Mormon 15 times. She enjoyed packing her bags and taking off to visit family. In 1996 Nola moved to her new apartment with J Glenn and Laura where she became the official grandma to the dogs.
Nola is survived by three children, 14 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren, four great-great grandchildren, and our little Casey dog. She also has some very special nephews and nieces that have enriched her life. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, her siblings, a son, and two grandsons.
Her family wishes to thank the many caregivers who helped her the past three years: the staff of Southern Utah Home Care, Kolob Care and Rehabilitation, Odyssey Health Care, many dear friends and Washington Fifth Ward Relief Society sisters.
Funeral services will be Fri., March 24, 2006, 2 p.m. at Metcalf Mortuary, 288 West St. George Blvd. Visitation will be Friday 12:30-1:30 p.m., prior to services. Interment will be Sat. March 25, 1 p.m., Cleveland City Cemetery.
