Donated Blood


The Stake Relief Society Presidency appreciate all those who donated blood at the Huntington Stake Center , Red Cross Drive on May 31. Fifty-four pints of productive blood can be used for patients.

Pioneer Day


Join us for breakfast, a parade, entertainment, games, fun, prizes, dinner and fireworks on July 21. There is still available space for vendors. Call the Emery town office at 286-2417 to make arrangements to sell your crafts, wares and food.

Family, Fun and Fireworks


Family, Fun and Fireworks will be held on July 4 at the Carbon County Fairgrounds. Free food will be served from 6:30-8:30 p.m. to children 12 and under. Crafts for kids, pinewood derby and Tyrone Bonner will DJ until the fireworks begin.

Rabbit Show


The Junior Livestock rabbit show will be held on July 12 at 5 p.m. at the Ferron Rodeo grounds. Bring all breeds of pet rabbits.

Defensive Driving Class

Women in the Outdoors


The Flockers of Carbon and Emery counties welcome all ladies 14 years old and up to the second annual Women in the Outdoors event on July 20-21 at the Little Bear Campground. Workshops will include trap shooting, mountain manning, wilderness survival/first aid, archery, fishing, rubber ducky race, crafts and more. The participation fee is $60 which includes; one year National Wild Turkey Federation membership, “Women in the Outdoors” quarterly magazine subscription; workshops on Saturday, four meals and tent/camper space. Heritage Days Parade


The Heritage Days Parade will be held on July 4. Childrens parade will be at 9:30 a.m., line up at city park and Center Street. The main and horse parade will be at 10 a.m., line up at 8:30 a.m. at 200 South Main for the main parade and at 300 South next to motel for the horse parade. Cash awards for the best float entries. Castle Country Playdays

Farm Service Agency Nominations


Nominations for candidates to run for county committee election representing all producers in 1.AA #1 will be accepted from June 15-Aug. 1. FSA-669A, nomination form must be filled out and returned to the FSA office before Aug. 1.

Emery County Fair Theme: New Adventures Await


Entries are due July 31. Entries are accepted at the exhibit building at the fair grounds. Food, fruits and vegetable entries will be due Aug. 1, no later than 10 a.m. Enter your projects from this past year. If you have questions regarding what is an acceptable fair entry, contact the 4-H office. The guidelines will soon be on the website as well. These activities, dates and times are subject to change. Miss Emery Pageant


The Miss Emery scholarship pageant will be held on July 14 at 7 p.m. Contestants must be 17 years of age by Sept. 1 to be in the pageant. Most juniors qualify. Anyone wishing to sign-up to compete in this scholarship pageant are encouraged to contact Jarilyn Spears, pageant director at 381-5667 or 381-2239 or call the Emery County Progress at 381-2431. Competition includes talent, interview, swimwear, on-stage question and evening gown. Scholarships for the pageant winner are queen, $1,200, first attendant, $700, second attendant, $500.

Cottonwood Canal Company Summer Hours

Grants for Sustaining Agriculture

Soldiers Addresses Needed


American Legion Auxiliary #42 of Ferron is looking for addresses from people of Emery County that have loved ones proudly serving our country in a war zone such as Iraq or Afghanistan. We have a program started three years ago called Operation Home Support which we send packages to soldiers, but we need help from Emery County residents with the names and addresses of your loved ones that are serving. They need a package from Operation Home Support to let them know they aren’t forgotten and that we care and support them. Habitat for Humanity

Local Veterans Employment Representative


A local veterans employment representative visits the Castle Dale DWS Office the first Wednesday of each month. Appointments can also be arranged on other days by contacting Steve Wilkinson at (435) 636-2343. The LVER is also available Monday through Friday at Department of Workforce Services, 475 West Price River Drive, for questions about VA benefits, assistance with VA applications, employment assistance and other veterans issues. CASA Volunteers Needed


Each year hundreds of children in Emery and Carbon counties become wards of the juvenile court system due to child abuse, neglect or abandonment. The child welfare system can only devote so much time and attention to each individual case and, consequently, to each individual child. CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate) Volunteers are ordinary men and women who find it in their hearts and their schedules to help these abused and neglected children. Angels Have Wheels


All Medicare recipients should now be aware that if they suffer from conditions such as arthritis, cardiovascular disease, and respiratory disorders, and have difficulty walking or propelling a standard wheelchair, they maybe eligible to receive an electric wheelchair paid for by Medicare. Utah Valley Cancer Center, located at Utah Valley Regional Medical Center has a new toll-free phone number. Anyone can call 1-866-549-3800 to schedule an appointment, get information about local cancer support groups or to find out more about IHC cancer services and physicians. Hours are 8 a.m.-5 p.m.
