Summer of Service in Green River

AmeriCorps VISTA volunteers work on repairwork for the Green River Community Center/Boys and Girls Club.

Green River had another Outward Bound group July 30. They arrived at the Community Center/Boys and Girls Club, where they were greeted by a grateful staff and excited kids. Zina Willard, an AmeriCorps* VISTA doing service at the Center and Amy Johnson who works with youth for the Boys and Girls Club of Green River, gave the group some background on the city and did introductions with the kids and staff.
The group then split up and half went to the Green River Medical Center to pull weeds and wash windows to help Mary Winters, Director of the Medical Center and her staff. The other half of the group stayed at the Community Center and helped move art and 4-H supplies that had been used for the School of Rock Summer School Program from the portable classroom into the storage area in the main building so that the College of Eastern Utah can facilitate their satellite education program in that classroom.
The Outward Bound Group did great jobs at both sites. It is always a blessing when these groups of young people visit; they are so hard working and caring. They give of themselves to help others.
The kitchen staff at the Community Center/Boys and Girls Club prepared snacks, lunch and cold refreshments for the group and Nancy Dunham of Dunham Farms, donated melons for the group to help cool them off after working in the hot summer heat.
