Kody Thompson gets ready to tee off for Emery.

Carbon wins region golf, finishes third at state
Region 8 foe Carbon, after taking the region crown, went to Soldier Hollow Golf Course and finished third at the state meet. Jason Child and Shayne Burke led the team with a 157 and a 158 score, respectively. Uintah High School won their first championship and region mate Park City took second. Uintah does not play a single senior on their team, so that probably makes them next season’s favorite already.
After Carbon in region golf came Juan Diego, Delta, North Sanpete and Emery. Unlike other seasons when the whole team went to the state tournament, this season saw only sophomore Mark Guymon qualify to golf in the state tournament. Guymon missed the cut after the first round of golf.
Coach Kevin Reynolds talked about his team, “We have a bunch of young guys that never finished better than fourth at any tournament we played in. I look for us to get better in the future as these guys continue to progress.”

Leo Sarver putts the ball on hole number seven.

Kevin continued on his schools showing, “Every other school had an ace and we didn’t. We could compete with the rest of their team but not with that first guy. More experience would be nice.”
Kyle Hill of Delta finished first in region and Burke of Carbon finished second.
We played in seven tournaments through the year but never finished better than fourth.
The Soldier Hollow course played in windy conditions during that first day of state play; day two was not much better.
