Emery County Farm Bureua Annual Banquet And Business Meeting
The annual banquet and business meeting will be held on Oct. 17 at 7 p.m. at the Huntington Senior Center. New officers will be elected and a light dinner will be served. The banquet is free of charge and is free to the public.
Flu Shots Available at Local Health Department
Southeastern Utah District Health Department will start giving flu shots Oct. 23 at the Castle Dale office. The vaccine will be offered 8:30-11:30 a.m. Shots will also be available after Oct. 23 during regular immunization hours. Vaccines are arriving on time and there are limitations. The cost is $25 but SEUDHD can bill Medicare, Medicaid, PEHP, DMBA, Mailhandlers, CHIP, Molina and Altius. Individuals should present their insurance cards at the time of service.
Meeting Change
The October Cleveland town council meeting has been changed from Oct. 11 to Oct. 17. The meeting starts at 7 p.m.
Museum Amateur Photography Exhibition
The College of Eastern Utah Prehistoric Museum staff welcomes amateur photographers to participate in its photography exhibition being displayed from October to December on the second floor mezzanine. Submissions will be accepted the weeks of Oct. 8-12 and Oct. 15-19 between the hours of 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. at the museum. No size limit has been set, but the gallery staff reserves the right to jury pieces at their discretion. After the photography exhibit concludes, submissions must be picked up Jan. 2-4, 2008 between the hours of 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. with no exceptions.
District Five American Legion Conference
The District five conference of the American Legion and the American Legion auxilary will be held on Oct. 13 at the Price Post 3 legion hall. It will begin at 11 a.m. The American Legion will dedicate their new Veteran’s memorial at the Museum of the San Rafael on Nov. 12 at 11 a.m.
Food Handler’s Class
Food Handler’s Class will be held Nov. 8 and Dec. 13 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the South Eastern Utah Health Department in Castle Dale. Call 381-2252 for more information.
Exhibit at the Museum of the San Rafael
The rephotography of George Edward Anderson’s environmental portraits by Peter L. Goss will be on display at the Museum of the San Rafael from Oct. 24-Nov. 30. A reception will be held on Oct. 24 at 7 p.m. at the Museum. For more information call Margaret at 381-5252.
Green River Residents
Emery County Weed Department, Skyline CWMA, Castleland RC&D will have chemical available to spray Russian knapweed in the Green River area on Oct. 12 at 10 a.m. at the County Road Department, 555 Long Street. Chemical will be for Russian knapweed treatment only and must be used on the day it is picked up. Bring your spray equipment or hand cans. Some equipment will be available for your use. Huntington City Open Burn
Huntington City open burn period will be Sept. 15-Oct. 14. Burn permits will be required and can be picked up at City Hall. Fall cleanup will be Oct. 1-Oct. 31. Tree limbs will only be picked up during spring and fall cleanup. There will no longer be a monthly pick up of trees and limbs. Dumpster location will be at the Huntington City Rodeo Grounds.

Regional Single Adult Fireside
Regional Single Adult Fireside will be held Oct. 14 at 6 p.m. at the Huntington Utah Stake Center featuring the great sculptor Dee Jay Bawden who will be speaking. Deana Bawden, his wife, will also be singing that night. Dee Jay has sculpted many mascots for different high schools, and also the Joseph Smith which was taken from his death mask. Refreshments will be served. All single adults in the Carbon and Emery area are welcome to attend.
Cleveland Fall Burn Season
Cleveland town fall burn season will be from Sept. 15-Oct. 14. Permits will be available at the town office. Allowable material to burn are dry weeds, garden waste, irrigation ditches, tree limbs under six inches diameter, tree and shrub trimmings and non-treated scrap lumber.
Soldiers Addresses Needed
American Legion Auxiliary #42 of Ferron is looking for addresses from people of Emery County that have loved ones proudly serving our country in a war zone such as Iraq or Afghanistan. We have a program started three years ago called Operation Home Support which we send packages to soldiers, but we need help from Emery County residents with the names and addresses of your loved ones that are serving. They need a package from Operation Home Support to let them know they aren’t forgotten and that we care and support them. Share the Experience Photo Contest
The Utah Office of Tourism is encouraging amateur photographers with a love of Utah’s public lands to help promote the state’s beauty in a national contest. The Federal Lands Management Agencies, along with the Ford Motor Company and the National Park Foundation, are sponsoring the Share the Experience Photo Contest, honoring the best photos of American public lands. The contest is open to the public and accepting submissions until Dec. 31. A total of 14 photographs will be given awards for their excellence. The Grand Prize winning photograph will be printed on the 2009 Federal Recreation Lands Pass and the photographer will receive a new 2008 Ford Escape Hybrid. National Spanish Trails Symposium
The Southern Utah Chapter of the Old Spanish Trail Association is pleased to announce a National Spanish Trails Symposium Oct. 11-13 in Cedar City. There will be presentation from over 16 trail scholars on a wide range of topics. Admission is $80 per person at the door and includes the published technical abstracts from the symposium. There will also be a Thursday evening chuck wagon dinner ($10), a Friday night banquet ($25) and Saturday trail excursions ($10).
