Letter to the Editor: Huntington Library hours

By Aaron Brower Huntington

Editor,
I am writing to you for my Boy Scout merit badge in communications. I have chosen the topic: Open hours at the Huntington City Library.
It is one of my favorite places in Huntington. I enjoy going and getting books and visiting with the librarians.
There is only one problem about it. It closes too soon. There are not enough open hours in the evening. School ends at 3:30 p.m. and the library closes at 5:30 p.m., so that is only two hours that we can go to the library and that whole time we are doing chores, homework, and eating dinner. So really there’s no time to go to the library.
I have heard from other kids that they can’t go to the library to do a report because it does not stay open long enough to do it. The best time to go to the library is on Saturday but the library doesn’t open then either. My dad comes home from work at 5 p.m. or sometimes later, then we eat dinner and the library closes while we are eating, so he has only been in the library about four or five times the whole two and a half years we have lived here.
I would like it if the library could stay open later on two week days such as Tuesday and Thursday. The hours could be 1-7 p.m. or something like that. If the library could be open two Saturdays of the month, like the first and third from 9 a.m.-1 p.m., it would help others to have more time at the library.
I really like reading but if the library doesn’t stay open long enough, it is really hard for the community to get books. Books are such a great thing to have access to. Thanks for listening. What do you think?
