Pool ribbon cutting Dec. 1 and open house Dec. 9-13

The Emery County Aquatics Center is in the process of training lifeguards so the pool can open on Dec. 9. From Dec. 9-13 will be free swimming. On Dec. 1 at 2 p.m. will be a ribbon cutting ceremony and the pool will host an open house from 2-8 p.m. on Dec. 1. There will be no swimming that day, pool officials want everyone to come and just look around so they can see the new facility for themselves.
Also during the open house and the free swim days there will be an early bird discount on the sale of season passes. These early bird passes will offer a discount off the yearly pass. The swim pass is good for 365 days from the time of purchase.
The pool is also available for private parties. The indoor pool and the outdoor pool will be available to rent for private parties during certain times. But, the majority of the time the pool will be open for open swim. It will be a real advantage to hold a season pass.
The season pass holder will be able to use their passes for open swim, exercise classes and lap swimming. The season pass will not be used for swimming lessons.
The passes will have a picture identification and they will be scanned when you come to the pool. Everyone must pay to enter the pool, if you just want to watch your children swim, you can do that from the lobby area, but to enter the pool you must pay and enter the pool through the dressing rooms only.
There is a door to the lobby from the pool area, but pool officials want everyone to understand this door is not for their use and only for the lifeguards and in the event of an emergency. The pool will accept debit cards, cash, checks and credit cards for admittance to the pool and for any party reservations.
Pool officials want to invite everyone to the ribbon cutting. The pool architect, pool committee, mayors, commissioners and all others involved with making the pool a reality are encouraged to attend as well as the public.
Pool officials said, “This pool is the latest and greatest. There is no chlorine smell at the pool. The pool uses the very latest in architectural design, and the mechanical systems are state of the art. The entire pool water is turned over every four hours. The latest in ultraviolet equipment is in use and has the very latest cryptosporidium control features. It’s just amazing, it’s complicated and fully automated. There is a chlorine injection system. It is all calibrated and precise, there’s no guessing how much chlorine is needed it’s all time released with exact and precise measurements. We are very excited about the pool, it will be a fantastic addition to our community.
“One point we really need to stress is the care of young swimmers. They will have to be double diapered. You must shower the young swimmer 4 years of age and younger and then they must have a swim diaper which we will have available for purchase or you can bring your own. Then they need a plastic diaper over that. We have to really monitor the pool for cryptosporidium. Last year all the pools in Salt Lake wouldn’t allow children under 6 in the pool.
“It’s a matter of health. We have the latest equipment, so we don’t see any problems with crypto at our pool. Parents also need to remember that we have a family dressing room, no longer can Moms bring young boys into the ladies dressing room. They must use the family dressing room.
“We will also have vending machines at the pool offering a variety of drinks, food and ice cream. We are in the process now of training our lifeguards. We have a number of very good life guards who are very good swimmers. We will continue to train them and it will be an ongoing process. You can sign up for swimming lessons which will start in January.
“Our hours for now will be 6 a.m.-8 p.m. Monday -Friday and 9 a.m.-6 p.m. on Saturdays and the pool will be closed Sundays. These are our holiday hours and the hours will be expanded after the first of the year. The pool is available for birthday parties, company parties, family reunions, whatever you have planned, but we need everyone to know there is no smoking, drinking or drugs allowed on the premises. Children under 10 need a guardian 14 years old or older for supervision. Swimmers 10 and over are OK on their own. If a swimmer is under the age of 6 they will need their guardian in the water with them. The rules of the pool will help keep everyone safe while swimming and ensure that everyone can use the pool and have a good time.
“The pool will become a community gathering place and we’ll have a lot of good times there. This has really been a community project with many people working together to make the pool a reality,” said pool management.
