Dennis A Blackburn unexpectedly returned home to his Heavenly Father on Nov. 19, 2009. He left behind a family who loves him and a solid testimony of Jesus Christ.
Dennis was born on June 18, 1948 in Price, Utah. He grew up in Emery and never forgot his roots. Dennis served as an LDS missionary in the Northwestern States. He married Debi, his eternal sweetheart, in 1971 and together they had eight children. They made their home in Price where Dennis practiced podiatry for 30 years. He loved his patients; caring for their feet reminded him of the Savior’s service. He had a tender place in his heart for babies, the elderly, and his children. He loved teaching, gardening, biking, astronomy, and his cabin.
Dennis was a man of reflection whose daily “Hand of God” journal entries gave him peace and gratitude. He delighted in history, his scriptures, and letters from his children. Dennis loved gathering and feeding his friends, family, and neighbors. He especially loved missionary work because he saw it as a gathering and feeding of the Lord’s children. Two weeks prior to his death, Dennis accepted a call to be an LDS mission president. This was something that Dennis and Debi had looked forward to for years, and they were excited to serve the Lord as companions.
Dennis is survived by his wife, Debi, his children, Rebekah (David), Phillip (Kathryn), Travis (Tammy), Marinda (Ben), Reed (Amber), Dennis (Ashley), Bonnie, and Mary, his five siblings, and nine grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, Alma and Dorthella.
Funeral services were at 10 a.m., Monday, Nov. 23, 2009 at the LDS Helper Stake Center (150 Ridgeway) in Helper, Utah. A viewing was held Sunday, Nov. 22 at the LDS Helper Stake Center in Helper, Utah from 5-7 p.m. and Monday, Nov. 23 from 8:30-9:30 a.m. prior to the services. He was interred in the Lindon City Cemetery at 3:30 p.m. on Monday. Services were in the care of Fausett Mortuary.
