Show Pig and Show Lamb Workshops
The Southeastern Utah Junior Livestock Show Committee is sponsoring workshops on how to select and care for show pigs and show lambs at 7 p.m. on Thur. February 11 at the Huntington Senior Citizen’s Center. Presenters will be USU Extension Agents Jim Jensen and Dennis Worwood. Topics will include: Selecting a Show Animal, Facilities, Health Care, Grooming, and Feeding. There is no charge for the workshops.

Cleveland Elementary PTO is hosting a “Family Bingo Night”
Friday, January 29th from 6:00-8:00pm. It will be held in the Old Town Hall building. There will be dinner served from 6-8, bingo will start at 6:30-8:00 and a silent auction will run throughout the night. A small fee will be charged for each bingo card and dinner. Master Gardener Classes
USU Extension is hosting ten Gardener classes in Castle Dale and Price from Jan. 28 through April 1. Topics include fruits, vegetables, flowers, turf, landscape design, house plants, pruning, trees, shrubs and plant propagation. Cost is $50 for one year, or $80 for the two-year course (20 classes). Private Pesticide Applicator Classes
Farmers and others can obtain a Private Pesticide Applicator’s License by attending one of two licensing classes that will be held in early Feb. The first class will be held from 1 to 5 p.m. on Fri., Feb. 5 at the Green River City Hall. The class will be repeated from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Sat., Feb. 6 at the Events Center at the Carbon County Fairgrounds in Price. Participants will NOT have to take an exam to receive their license. Fruit and Backyard Poultry Classes
USU Extension will offer classes on tree fruit, small fruit, and backyard poultry production at a Small Acreage Conference on Sat., Feb. 6 at the Carbon County Fairgrounds in Price. Ferron Library will be having a swap party Wednesday, Jan 27th 4:15-5:15 p.m. Bring 5 items, clean and in good condition, to the library and you can choose 5 items to take home. Huntington City Dog Licenses
The Huntington City 2010 dog licenses are now due. Proof of current rabies vaaccination must be presented before license can be issued. Deadline for dog licenses is March 1. Dog licenses may be purchased at the Huntington City Fire Station on the following dates: Jan. 23 – 10 a.m. – noon (Glen Jensen D.V.M.). Feb. 27 – 9:30 a.m. to noon (Brett Griggs D.V.M.).
Clawson Town Rabies and Licensing Clinic
Clawson Town will hold our rabies and licensing clinics on Jan. 30. at the town hall 200 S. Main from 10 a.m. – Noon.

Free Resource Makes Applying for Student Financial Aid Easier
Self-guided presentation walks students through the sometimes-confusing financial aid application process. The Utah Higher Education Assistance Authority is very pleased to announce “Navigating the FAFSA,” a much-needed new resource to help students complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (commonly called the “FAFSA”). This tool is a self-directed presentation that guides students through topics explaining the purpose of the FAFSA, how to obtain a PIN to sign their FAFSA securely online, what information should be gathered, how to complete the FAFSA, and how to submit it. Easily found on the front page of the UHEAA website, this presentation gives high school counselors and financial aid professionals another tool to help their students. CASA Volunteers Needed
Each year hundreds of children in Emery and Carbon counties become wards of the juvenile court system due to child abuse, neglect or abandonment. The child welfare system can only devote so much time and attention to each individual case and, consequently, to each individual child.
