SPRING GLEN-Jerry Mathew Smolic, age 57, passed away unexpectedly Jan. 21, 2010 at Castleview Hospital in Price.
He was born Aug. 31, 1952 in Portland, Ore. to Albert John and Louise Kozel Smolic.
Married Kathleen L. Kennedy, Dec. 19, 1998 in Helper, Utah.
Matt was raised and educated in Tacoma, Wash. where he was a graduate of Clover Park High School in 1970. He shared a great love for the outdoors, golfing, scuba diving, riding his motorcycles, jogging, and doing anything to keep physically fit. His first love was programming and repairing computers, but over the past few years his true passion was riding his Harley with his friends at Friendship Riders.
At the time of his passing he was employed as a truck driver at Longwall West in Price where he was well respected by all in the industry. Matt thought the world of his family at Longwall West and they truly meant the world to him and his family. He was loved by all and his passing will leave a void that will never be filled.
Matt is survived by his wife, Katie Smolic, Spring Glen; daughters, DiDi (Gabriel) Orta, Brandie Belcher, both of Puyallup, Wash.; son, Jerry Schumaker, Pensacola, Fla.; five grandchildren; four brothers, Albert (Sarah) Smolic, Eugene, Ore., Ken Smolic, Roggen, Colo., Tommy (Katie) Smolic, Tacoma, Wash., Cary (Nancy) Smolic, Maple Valley, Wash.; step-children, Allen, Kelley, Jodie, Joe and Jammie Timblin.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral service, Thursday, Jan. 28, 2010, 11 a.m., Mitchell Funeral Home. Family will be at Mitchell’s Wednesday evening from 6-8 p.m. and Thursday one hour prior to service. Online condolences of Matt can be shared at mitchellfuneralhome.net
