CASTLE DALE-Susan Elaine Keele, age 63, returned home to her Heavenly Father Jan. 21, 2010 in Castle Dale, Utah. She was born Jan. 13, 1947 to Leland and Lois Hatch in Boise, Idaho. She married Kent Roger Keele on March 21, 1969 in the Logan Temple.
Kent and Susan spent the first years of their marriage serving in the United States Air Force. They were stationed in Sacramento, Calif. then Abilene, Texas. Kent served in Thailand for a year leaving Susan in Boise and then together they went to Anchorage, Alaska. They finally settled in Castle Dale in 1977.
Susan was a dedicated wife, mother and grandmother and took great pride in her family. Her greatest joy in life was spending time with them. She enjoyed camping, fishing, 4-wheeling, motorcycling, hiking and working in her yard. She loved her garden and preserving the fruits and vegetables that she grew. She was famous for her delicious zucchini bread and salsa.
She could always find a way to make people laugh and feel comfortable. She gave selflessly of her time and talents. She was an avid sports fan and especially loved the Utah Jazz and the Boise State Broncos. She was active in the community and made friends wherever she went. On Thursdays she could be found at the bowling alley, where she participated in a bowling league for the last 20 years. She loved to travel and was able to visit many exciting places.
She was passionate about the gospel and was steadfast in her beliefs. She served in a variety of church callings including Primary president, welfare service missionary at the Castle Dale Home Storage Cannery, librarian (her favorite), Visiting Teaching supervisor, Primary teacher, Young Women leader and Girl’s Camp director. Susan and Kent were preparing to serve an LDS mission to Moscow, Russia. She was engrossed in learning the language and excited to serve the Lord.
Susan is survived by her husband, Kent; children Rachael (Michael) Christopherson of Clovis, NM; Trent (Kacie) Keele of West Valley City, Utah; Taylor (Carrie) Keele of Sandy, Utah; Samantha Keele of Salt Lake City, Utah and Jaime (Tony) Wood of Price, Utah; grandchildren, Gavin, Ryker, Aubrey, Saige, Kendra, Allison, Matthew, Bradley, Braden, Amanda, Andee and Ryann; mother, Lois; sisters Ellen Esquivel and Darlene (Mike) Law; brothers Dennis Hatch and Steve (Chris) Hatch.
She is preceded in death by her father, Leland and sister, Terry Hatch.
Funeral services will be Tuesday, Jan. 26 at 11 a.m. at the 800 North LDS Chapel in Castle Dale (165 W. 800 N.). Viewings was held Monday, Jan. 25 from 6-8 p.m. and also Tuesday, Jan. 26 from 9:30-10:30 a.m. at the 800 North Chapel. Interment will be in the Castle Dale City Cemetery.
