Golden Eagles defense helps pave way to conference opening win

On Saturday, Dec. 11 Eastern Utah Men’s basketball team played its first conference game of the season as they traveled to Colorado Northwestern Community College. It ended with a final score of EU 90- 67 over CNCC.
It didn’t take Eastern long to establish the tempo of the game. By halftime the Eagles had a 14 point advantage with Brady Hurst and Jonathan Mills doing heavy damage in the paint.
This is EU’s fourth win in a row and Coach Barton was pleased with the defensive effort that held CNCC to just 67 points.
Brady Hurst put up a a double/double with 27 points and 13 rebounds. Jonathan Mills recorded his ninth double/double of the season with 20 points and 14 rebounds. Trevor Bamgartner added 17 points and grabbed seven rebounds and four assists.
Earlier in the week Eastern Utah played the Utah All-Star team. The mode for the game was set on the very first offensive possession with Aaron Hawk-Harris throwing down a lob pass for a monster dunk. The Eagles were never really threatened by the All-Star team. Seven Players score in double digits with Maxim Zakharov leading the way with 25 points. EU hit 100 points with 14 minutes left in the second half as they blew out the All-Stars with a final score of 143-75
Scenic West Athletic Conference first week standings have Snow College winning both of their first week conference games to take the top spot followed by Eastern Utah. Southern Idaho and Salt Lake both at 1-1 followed by Colorado Northwestern 0-1 and North Idaho at 0-2.
Conference play resumes in January.
