Huntington has a new barber shop located next to Carbon/Emery Insurance on Main Street. If you’re in need of some pampering and an old fashioned barber experience then step into Kurt’s Classic Barber Shop. Curtis Scalp offers a hot towel shave and other men’s services including the hair cut of your choice cut to your specifications and likes. Scalp wants everyone to know they are a welcoming and friendly place. There is a waiting room where you can have a cup of coffee and a doughnut if you have to wait a minute for your hair cut. Scalp said you don’t need to make an appointment you just need to walk in and he’ll get you fixed up. Hours for the barber shop are Monday from 2-8 p.m. Tues. Wed and Thur from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and on Saturday from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. The number to call for the barber shop is 435-630-5397.
Other services are offered in the shop include massage and piercing. He hopes to add a cosmetologist to the business one day in the future as well.
Jillian Walls is the masseuse and originally from Orangeville. You can make an appointment for a massage by calling 749-5954. Massages are $30 per hour. She also offers a mothers-to-be massage for $40. Walls is in the shop for appointments on Saturdays and Mondays.
Eddie Horvath offers body piercing at the shop and he said piercing is fun. You can make an appointment for a piercing by calling 820-5129. Horvath also does piercing in Carbon County.
Scalp said his friend Eric Chiaretta has helped him get his business started. He is a barber from Miller Creek who is moving to Moab to work at Norm’s barber shop and if you want to catch Chiaretta in Moab you can call 435-259-7997.
Scalp said they offer general care for men and also have men’s products available for purchase or can order in anything you need. Scalp said this is his first barber shop and he is excited to be in business. He has worked with other people cutting hair and obtained his barber’s license. Scalp said he has a speech impediment and the Vocational Rehabilitation has helped him get his business going.
Scalp also wished to thank Jennifer Baletka and Ethan Migliori at the Small Business Development Center for adding their knowledge and background for businesses to the opening of the new barber shop.
Scalp likes being part of the Emery County business community and likes his location on the Huntington Main Street. He has had good support from the local people and encourages everyone to stop by to see what he can offer. You can stop by and visit and get a hair cut, too.
“I take pride in my work and want to see everyone leave the shop happy. I’ve had a lot of people who really like their cuts. We want people to look good and I enjoy helping them,” said Scalp. He said he has a new banner to advertise the shop and a new barber pole coming in June. Scalp is originally from Idaho but is enjoying Huntington. “There are a lot of neat, cool people here. It’s a good place to start a business. Talk to Jennifer and Ethan, they can help you,” said Scalp. He likes the freedom of running his own business. If you have a picture of a haircut you want to try then, Scalp says bring it in and he’ll do his best to get it right.
He wants to promote the community and do his best to become part of it.
