SUNNYSIDE-Our beloved aunt, sister-in-law and friend, Yvonne DallaCorte, passed away peacefully at her home Feb. 14, 2011. She was born Feb. 10, 1928, in Sunnyside, Utah, to Italian immigrant parents, Amerigo and Carmela Pederiva DallaCorte, the fourth of five children. She now joins her entire family.
Yvonne celebrated her 83rd birthday four days earlier with her dear Sunnyside friends and her second family, the Leonards. Her extended family is eternally grateful to everyone in Carbon County who cared for her in many ways that we could not, due to distance. We knew she was in good hands.
She graduated from Carbon High School in 1946, and then started working at the Miner’s Trading Post in Sunnyside as a clerk, then later as the office manager. Her proudest accomplishment was working at “the store” for 61 years. In 2006, she was the grand marshal of the Community Daze parade honored for her dedication to her community and her employer.
She was a devout member of the Good Shepherd Catholic Church. She will be remembered for her terrific memory, the birthdays she remembered and the cards and money she sent. She shared everything she had with her loved ones. She always kept the cookie jar full of cookies or bubble gum for the kids. Once interviewed by a newspaper, she said she had no regrets in life. The people she most wanted to meet were her grandparents, whom she never knew, and the place she most wanted to travel to was Heaven. She said her most prized possession were her memories of family and friends.
She was a life-long resident of Sunnyside and cared for her parents until their passing. Although she never had any children of her own, many people consider her to be like a “second mother”. She was the truest of friends. We’ll remember her beautiful smile and humble, giving spirit as she put others’ needs before her own. She touched so many people’s lives for good and will always be with us, in our hearts and memories.
Yvonne was preceded in death by her parents, her sisters, Gena Gourdin and Yolanda Farlaino, and her brothers, Ray and Bruno DallaCorte. She is survived by her sisters-in-law, Ileene DallaCorte, Crystal Lake, Ill., Betsy DallaCorte, La Habra Heights, Calif., and many loving nieces and nephews from coast-to-coast.
Vigil Service, Thursday evening 7 p.m. at Good Shepherd Catholic Church, East Carbon, Utah. Funeral Mass, Friday, Feb. 18, 2011, 10 a.m. Notre Dame de Lourdes Catholic Church in Price. Family was at the church one hour prior to each service. Interment, Price City Cemetery. Arrangements entrusted to Mitchell Funeral Home of Price where friends are welcome daily and may share memories of Yvonne online at www.mitchellfuneralhome.net.
