FERRON – Eleanore Wolport Singleton George passed away peacefully at her home on Wednesday, June 29, 2011, at the age of 93. Eleanore was born Sept. 12, 1917 in Park City, Utah to Harold E. and Mary Elva Huntsman Wolport. Her father, Harold, passed away in 1918 due to the flu epidemic. Her family then moved to Ferron, and her mother married Morris Singleton.
Eleanore graduated from South Emery High School and Utah State University in Logan. She married Ward D. George on Dec. 12, 1935 in Ferron. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple.
Eleanore has spent all of her life actively involved in Emery County and in Ferron in particular. She spent her career in service to Emery County as County Treasurer and continued to be active as a timeless booster for multiple generations of home-town youth. She was involved in the American Legion Auxiliary and the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers.
She is survived by her children: Wes (Elaine) George of Tucson, Ariz., Gary (Pat) George of Ferron, and Heidi (Mike) Pollard of Memphis, Tenn.; brother, Sam (Alta) Singleton of Ferron; sister, Coleen Jorgensen of Kenai, Alaska; 11 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; and 12 great-great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ward; parents, Harold Wolport and Morris and Mary Elva Singleton; three children, Harold Reidel George, Coleen George, and Roy George; sister, Philis Stanton; and two brothers-in-law, Wan Jorgensen and Gerald Stanton.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, July 9, 2011 at 2 p.m. at the Ferron Dutch Flat LDS Ward (555 South 400 West). There will be a viewing Friday, July 8, from 6-8 p.m. at Fausett Mortuary (720 N. Center St.) and on Saturday, from 12:30-1:30 p.m. prior to the services at the church. Interment will be in the Ferron City Cemetery.
