In less than ideal conditions, the wind was gusting to more than 60 miles per hour; Emery High took less than a full squad to Delta and participated in the Delta High Invitational track meet. The wind made the javelin do funny things from time to time and certainly affected runners as they came around the corner into the home stretch, as times were much slower than previous meets.
Salem Hills won both the boys meet and the girls as the 4-A school was impressive. Juab was second and Stansbury third for the boys. Host Delta was second for the girls followed by Stansbury, Tooele and Emery. There were 23 high schools at the track meet.
Taylor Hansen finished third in the high jump with a jump of 6’0″. Scott Jackson finished seventh in the 200-meter race with a time of 25.46.
Ashlynn Allred, freshman at Canyon View Junior High, was named the outstanding athlete of the competition.
Allred won the 100-meter race with a time of 13.37 seconds. Allred was second in the 200-meter race with a time of 28.89, .07 of a second behind the winner. Allred place third in the long jump with a jump of 17’2.75″, three quarters of an inch behind the winner.
Emery had two relay teams that placed. The 4×100-meter relay team placed second with a time of 53.04 seconds.
The team consisted of Catherine Dyer, Hailee Rogers, Jessica Guymon and Ashlynn Allred. The sprint medley relay team consisting of Catherine Dyer and Cassidy Labrum running 200 meters, Hailee Rogers running 400 meters and Hannah Dyer running 800 meters finished third with a time of 4:54.92.
Jessica Guymon placed eighth in the javelin with a throw of 91.06 feet.
Guymon also finished just 1.3 seconds out of placing in the 800-meter run. Hailee Rogers finished just 1/2 inch out of placing in the long jump.
